All FSCJ Spring 2013 Hopefuls
I just looked at my packet and it doesn't say anything about the physical having to be done after a certain date. There is a form that needs to be filled out but most doctors will fill it in without seeing you again if you've just had a physical. All that is on the physical form is places to document your titers/PPD/flu vax and a place to sign that states you are healthy. To be safe though you may want to postpone the physical.

Littmann's aren't cheap but they are some of the best stethoscopes, I'd recommend the Classic II. If you don't want to spend that much just make sure your stethoscope has 2 sides (a bell and a diaphragm). You can get the BP cuff anywhere, allheart.com has some or you can buy it when you get your skills kit from stat line (they had someone selling them at our orientation). As of shoes make sure they are comfortable or you will end up having to buy another pair. Most of the nursing shoes are pretty good but I have a pair of white new balance that have worked well for me. Allegras are really popular among nurses. You can also buy uniforms from SNA at orientation rather than paying full price through Meridy's.

Need help with nursing diagnosis
You're right. They do stress ambulation but with this patient they were afraid she would do too much and would be in severe pain once her high wore off. I guess I should reword it. Thanks!

Need help with nursing diagnosis
I changed that diagnosis to knowledge deficit r/t lack of exposure to teaching AEB placement to forgein object in lady parts during puerperium period. "Risk prone health behavior" is that a NANDA diagnosis?

There is a lot of stuff you can get/do ahead of time, stethoscope, sphigmomanometer, white shoes, physical, PPD, MMR/Varicella/Hep B titers, TDAP, tetorifice vaccine, flu shot, and passport picture. The uniforms come from a specific site and you have to have a code to access the correct uniform tops but you can get white scrub bottoms from anywhere.

All FSCJ Spring 2013 Hopefuls
I started last spring and I got my letter the first or second week of December. I was a UNF student at the time so I didn't check my FSCJ email and lots of people found out before me because they got the email first.

You probably won't hear back from them until the beginning of December (killer, I know). Check your FSCJ email, you will get the email before you get the letter. So don't panic!

All FSCJ Spring 2013 Hopefuls
Hey guys! I'm currently in the program and have some first term books to unload. Once you are accepted let me know if you're interested. Good luck to everyone! P.S. You probably won't find out until 1-2 weeks before you need to have everything turned in so be proactive and make sure you are checking your FSCJ email.

Need help with nursing diagnosis
I'm doing a care plan on a postpartum patient who had someone bring her medication from outside the hospital and midway through the shift had a dramatic change in LOC due to OD. She was hospitalized 3 times during her pregnancy for similar behavior. She also has a history of bulimia but I didn't get a chance to ask her anything about it before she started talking nonsense. I need one more diagnosis. Also, I feel like I should change some of the ones I have so I don't have quite as many "risk for" diagnosis. Here's what I have for my nursing diagnosis: Confusion r/t drug abuse AEB incoherent speech Risk for injury r/t altered LOC Risk for infection r/t knowledge deficit (she was putting tissue inside her lady parts) Risk for infection r/t operative procedure Risk for injury r/t operative procedure Knowledge deficit r/t activity/exercise restrictions AEB OOB and pacing 24 hours post-op Risk for self mutilation r/t history of self-injurious behavior (she cutts herself) Risk for impaired parenting r/t altered LOC Anxiety r/t fetal well being AEB patient questioning when she will be able to see her son I appreciate any help you can offer!

OK... I couldn't find a FB page for those starting at FSCJ in January so I went ahead and created one. You can search for me under Jessica McIntosh Jacobs or the group FSCJ Nurses - c/o Spring 2013, or send me your email.

Many hospitals are now requiring a BSN. A friend told me Baptist wouldn't even consider her for a position because she doesn't have a BSN, even though she has experience.
