Air Force nursing FY2021

Hello all,

I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.

I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

I got an email from [email protected] that told me OTS report date and prerequisite course material stuff I had to do

Same!

My recruiter told me that there were only two spots open in January so I’m assuming you two got them!! She had told me to prepare myself to leave in Jan but now I’m thinking it’ll be Feb or March if not later.

Oh wow! That’s nice you got a warning! I’ve had no communication between getting the call I was selected and the WINGS e-mail ?. Being overseas it’s kind of crazy getting things together.

Oh my gosh, that’s crazy! To me it sounds like they also select who goes sooner based on the needs of the Air Force, which makes sense since I saw you had said earlier you are trauma and they have those needs. With me being a clinical nurse applicant, it makes sense for me to not get the spot!! I’m sorry your communication has been so poor!! At least they sent that email so you know you’re actually going!

I think you’re right. Very true! My recruiter said they are pressing to try and get my paperwork signed today. So curious if they means they will have been able to get me orders as well or not. I will keep you all posted.

....when to buy uniforms...its harder with it being the holiday season. Thanks and good luck to y'all

Congrats on the selection. I can't speak for the rest of the stuff but on the uniforms, some people just won't have access or the ability to get uniforms and such, but if you have access to a base (through a friend or your recruiter), the sooner you can get your uniforms, the better. You can have some time to break in your boots and learn to fold your clothes the way the manual you will get will tell you (the dorm manual I think, we had found it on the internet....or Youtube). You can also get anything you need tailored or name tapes and such sewn on instead of velcro if you prefer. And bates.com has some good sales on boots and have a military selection. You may have to get a man's boot but I wore mens bates workbooks for years while I was a flight nurse and they're super comfy, I'll likely be ordering mine from them.

I sure hope the whole "2 slots left in Jan" is legit LOL. I have not been too worried or panicked about a lot, but I would sure like a date so I can get things in order LOL. I'll just be over here checking my email every few minutes.

Not yet. I leave in 18 days. I just got off a group zoom call with my recruiting team. He said he’s going to do a 1 on 1 about my file tomorrow.

Nope. Don't have an OTS date yet either ?‍♀️

sounds like today something is going down, my recruiter has a sense of urgency to get my paper work in by today to make OTS by Jan 5th.  A bit anxious. It's hard to relax when one is not in control of the process.
