Hello all,
I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.
I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.
It really is! I found it interesting they said the board dates go by Airforce needs and said right now trauma nurses are being slotted before pilots or clinical nurses. He said he had others with February or March dates maybe even later but that’s why mine was pushed ahead so quickly. No assignment yet. He said he’s going to write my quarantine into my orders with me having to arrive at OTS before Christmas. So should be finding out relatively soon.
How were the interviews, consultants and board? I passed MEPS almost a month ago, and my recruiter is now saying that he will send some emails to get me scheduled for interviews and consultants. No time frame. Also, he mentioned that the board interview has been pushed out from Jan 15 to sometime in Feb. Any guidance or advice I can do to prepare?
Im trying to stay motivated, but its been hard with push backs like this and dealing with patient ratio of 1:8 in CA in ED covid units. Trying to keep motivated and keeping strong.

How does the quarantine work for OTS? I saw a you tube video where the guy said that for the first two weeks they didn't do PT just lectures, eating and back to the dorms...so do you quarantine before going? or you quarantine at OTS.

For me they are writing it into my orders and I am arriving 2 weeks prior to class to quarantine on site. Not sure how it works for others though.
Hi everyone
I just discovered this thread so I'm way late in the game. I usually don't use allnurses .com, last time I checked on military they didn't have much or the threads I found were more than 10yrs ago so I stopped checking. Anyways I'm a med-surg RN trying to get in AF, going through previous threads I see a few of us are going through similar situations. It's been an anxiety causing experience namely MEPS and board review. I learnt the other day I've been selected but now not sure if going in Jan 5 or Feb, just submitting my paperwork whatever happens, happens. I would like to hear the process from those who have their orders for Jan 5th especially the quarantine bit ....when to buy uniforms...its harder with it being the holiday season. Thanks and good luck to y'all

Gotcha that's going to be a long two weeks. The guy on you-tube video did mention how it's difficult not to exercise for two weeks and be expected on top of your game after quarantine ...so he's advise was to exercise as much as you can now.

Agreed! It’s hard right now the gyms here are on lockdown so basically already doing quarantine workouts.

The whole process will seem like one big push back so just expect that for sure! My chief nurse interview was via FaceTime and took maybe 20 min-I’ve heard others were longer. He had gone through my application pretty thoroughly and didn’t ask redundant questions. Your recruiter should give you a list of things they would likely ask you, I think there were 6 or 8 things.
My consultant interview was 1.5 hours, and I actually really enjoyed talking to her. She had a lot more specific information about my speciality and how my job would look. She also reviewed my experience, patient acuity, EMRs, etc. my recruiter said it would include “next step” situational questions, but I didn’t really have much of that. It was very much conversational, didn’t feel forced, and I learned a lot from it. This was a phone interview. Both of my interviews were in the same week and two weeks before the application was due.
Definitely know the core values and why you want to join because they both asked that. Good luck!

I got an email from [email protected] that told me OTS report date and prerequisite course material stuff I had to do

It's amazing what they can pull off in 3 weeks (or less) when they have to!
