Air Force Board Results

Published

Just got the call from my recruiter! I've been accepted! I am so excited.

My recruiter was one of 3 nationwide who had all of his applicants accepted.

Initially, I was told that I would find out my COT date, NTP location, and assignment when I was notified of the results. However, my recruiter just informed me that the results were released but all the other information should be released next week.

Good luck to everyone! Can't wait to hear who has made it.

Whoever ends up at Lackland, let me know - I'm here on the oncology floor in adult BMT.

I was wondering where you were working there. I am sure you are not settled yet, but I was wondering what you know about the availability of base housing there? Did you even consider base housing?

Has anybody heard if the results for the non-NTP board came out yet? I know that the NTP board results were delayed by 2 weeks...non-NTP results were supposed to come out on Dec 4 so I'm really anxious. I'm prior enlisted from Travis AFB, CA but my husband (who is active duty enlisted) and I are hoping to go to Andrews AFB, MD.

The latest I heard from my recruiter was that either today or Monday is when the non-NTP should hear by. Now we all know that should be taken with a grain of salt but this was what he told me Wednesday.

Triman,

I have that same answer. At this point, I feel confident that I will get in. the question is WHEN?! lol. I am not holding my breath, but I'm just ready for anything.

I completely agree. It just gets frustrating when everybody is asking you, "So do you get in?" or "What did you find out?" You get those messages five times a day and it gets a little frustrating but in the end I know I'll have a good answer for them!

I told people (like my MOM), to stop asking, Please! I told her that I would call immediately and that asking is just stressing me out. I'm working all weekend, which helps keep me occupied and my mind off of it.

Uh, in a few words; GOD, NO. The company grade officer housing here is awful - it's sixty years old (literally) and is only one thousand square feet. They take your entire housing allowance (which for here is $1249 w/dependents) for a thousand square feet...and they can, in my opinion, keep it.

They ARE building new stuff, but it's the Feds - I've seen where they are with it and I doubt it will be done for at least another year, regardless of what they're claiming. ALSO, within three years here (allegedly) all the houses will be INDIVIDUALLY METERED, which means the days of your housing allowance also covering your utility bills if you live on base are numbered. There's no way I'd give up my housing allowance AND have to pay utilities. And they wonder why people don't want to live on base.

We're renting 2400 square feet three miles from base in a brand new, swanky development for $1095/month. We found the house in four days, which includes being here over Thanksgiving weekend. We rode around a couple of days over the weekend looking at stuff we found on the Internet so we had an idea of where things were and how San Antonio is laid out (with all these loops it's confusing!). We found it on Monday, went in it on Tuesday, turned in the app on Wednesday, and signed the lease on Thursday. I'll get reimbursed for the ten days we were in billeting. My household stuff came on Monday - we had an inflatable bed for the weekend and still had to eat out (no kitchen utensils and no fridge here), but it wasn't for long. And as you can see, it's not a dump - LOL....two stories, two car garage, and a decent backyard. It's two years old. We're really happy about it.

Someone I went to COT with is living in base housing because he told me he didn't want to bother with finding a place (they give you seven to ten days to look). He's regretting the decision already and was miffed when he asked me about what I'd managed to find. Hey - it was his choice. (I did warn him that I didn't really want to tell him - but he pushed me. It annoyed him a bit...)

Here's a logistics question. Did you drive to COT or fly? Then when did you get household packed up and report to new assignment? Do I find a place first or come home and get my stuff inbetween COT? ok, a few questions.

I drove. You won't use your car much at COT but you'll only get travel days from Alabama to your next base. You won't have time, really, to go home, get your car, and then go to your base.

If you have no dependents, you can arrange for your stuff to be picked up prior to your going to Alabama. My DH was in NC when our stuff was moved; I just made sure he had a power of attorney and copies of my orders before I left.

You will get househunting days once you report to your base. I would recommend not getting a house/apt ahead of time, because the AF CAN change your orders. It's rare, but it does happen. (If they change your orders and they've already shipped your stuff, that becomes their problem and their expense, so don't worry about that.)

The house looks nice. Thanks for the info. We live off base here, but I kind of miss living on base at times. However, even our base house overseas that was for a SrA was bigger than 1000 sqft. That is great that your stuff came so fast as well.

Overseas is a whole different ball game as compared to stateside. Most of the housing overseas is relatively new (meaning it's usually no older than thirty years at the most, and a bunch of it is being redone as we speak).

The housing stateside is terrible because no one lives in it anyway (and they wonder why, right?). It's getting better, though; I don't know why it's taken so long for Lackland's to get fixed, unless it's because of the Kelly consolidation (which was being done when I was here in 1996!). The housing I saw at Altus in Oklahoma in the late nineties was nicer than the crap they have here. It was pretty embarrassing, really. I've seen the housing they just built at Kirtland and boy, is it swanky!
