AGHHH CGFNS Im crying with frustration just now help!!!

Please guys someone explain this to me. I have spent hours on this site on the cgfns site and searching the internet for information.

EVERYTHING I read said to apply to CGFNS for a Credential Evaluation Service and they will issue me a report detailing wether my education is equivalent to usa and giving either what hours I need to make up for USA or telling me I have the equivalent of a usa nurse so I can go ahead and apply for ATT with NJ BON.

SOOOOOOOO today I see online that my cgfns final document is received and my file is ready for review but on hold. I call to find out what the hold is and they tell me they cant issue my report as I have not specified a Board of Nursing to send the report to!!!!! I thought they sent the report to me so I would know what hours I needed!! There is no point them submitting the report to the New Jersey Board of Nursing as.....

1) NJ BON have no idea who I am I have never applied to them for licensure as I dont know what hours I need to make up yet.

2) I am no where ready to apply for ATT and sit NCLEX yet and wont be till at least May 2007 because I was going to make up hours if needed in that time in the usa or do a review course in usa to help me pass nclex.

According to CGFNS they send report to NJ BON and a copy to me then NJ BON contact me to tell me what hours I need to make up but Im sure this is not right. But what happens then if I dont want to sit nclex before next May? Do I need to apply to NJ BON for liciencesure now so they know who I am when cgfns send them my CES Report? Am I going to end up paying twice? Once now to apply for ATT that I cant use then apply again next year.

It is so so frustrating getting idifferent info from everywhere.

Sorry for all the frustation you are experiencing, its a minefield out there and you are just starting:(

As far as I am aware what you said in your last paragraph about CGFNS is correct.

Most BON's require that you have CGFNS or CES before they will approve you to sit the NCLEX. Once you have been "credentialled" by CES or CGFNS it lasts indefinatly so you wont need to apply for it again even if you dont sit NCLEX till next year.

I dont think at this stage it matters that NJ BON dont know you, this in itself is an "introduction". If thats where you intend to apply for lisencing then you will get the requirements specific to them. Have you requested the right level? Its usually the Healthcare Profession and Science Course-by-Course Report that they need.

Good luck :monkeydance:

Hi there,

Thanks so much for answering.

Yes it is a total nightmare I wish I knew that I had to specify who the report goes to I asked cgfns when I first applied for CES and they told me if I hadnt applied to a BON then just put myself as the recipient which I did!!! I can see from what your saying they evaluate your credentials based on the requirements of what BON your applying to it makes sense they need to know what BON your applying to but they could have said that!!!!

I have applied to cgfns for the full course by course report as stated on the NJ BON site. But do I understand right that when CGFNS send my CES to NJ BON it does not matter they have not had an application for Liciensure from me the CES report will sit on file till I apply for ATT next May?

And who tells me what hours I need to make up cgfns say its the NJ BON but Suzanne told me my cgfns report would clearly state what hours I was short if any and many folk post here saying they got their cgfns report and it gave them this information????

Its so hard to get correct information.

I think what CGFNS mean is that the NJ BON tell you what hours etc you need to make up based on their requirements, but this information is conveyed to you via CGFNS, if you know what I mean.

Dont worry about it not being on file after a period of time, once you have it, its there forever. You wont need any further CES.

If you let CGFNS know which BON they need to file at then things should just flow on from them. You will get issued with a certificate which will tell you whether or not you comply to their educational requirements and that will stay with you for life. Then you can go ahead and apply for your ATT when you are ready :nurse:

once you get OK to sit NCLEX then is when you apply to pearsonvue to sit it. Only from when you feel ready to sit NCLEX do you register with pearsonvue to sit it, the 12 months usually start then.

The CES report from CGFNS in my case just said "equivalent to US RN education", so there were no hours listed for makeup courses, not sure if they give that info. I assume they send it to NJ-BON, and then you send in the application for licensure and they let you know exactly what, if anything, you need to do extra to be eligible.

Why don't you send in the application for the BON now, and then they will take some time to get back to you re eligiblity. As far as I know, you don't have to take the NCLEX within a certain time, so that might be best for you to know what you need to do?

Good luck - dealing with this process is definitely challenging and confusing, it seems everyone tells you something different!

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. I was to thinking how long the process took. I worry if I apply to the NJ BON now and they get my application and CES report (plus my money) if they issue the ATT what if I dont want to sit nclex for another 6 months? What if the ATT runs out and I have to start all over again and pay all over again.

I was assured by Suzanne that the cgfns report does tell you what hours you need to make up if any. If yours says equivalent to RN training your in the clear you dont need to make up hours just apply to sit nclex lucky you!!!!

How long does the ATT last then?

Specializes in med/surg.

My ATT was valid from 19th July - 17 October. In the rules it says that the validity of the ATT CANNOT be extended for ANY REASON & that I must schedule my test with Pearson Vue within the stated dates.

How long does the ATT last then?

I have no idea apparently is differs per state, I have read the NJ BON site upside down and backwards and tried calling them and leaving messages to call me back but they havent I have no idea how long NJ ATT lasts.

Oh I forgot to add that my eligibility to test from Vermont (which allowed me to apply for the ATT) was only valid for 30 days.

Its just so hard to get info and know what time lime to follow. I was going to leave my visa screen till later to but just saw a post here saying you need to send visa screen with your I-145 applicationf for AOS so I have no idea now when to apply for it CGFNS take sooooooooooooo long to do anything and do nothing if you dont chase them.
