Ages of male nursing students?

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

I'm still only doing pre-reqs and i'm 19. Feelsbadman. Youngest guy in the class. Other guys are like 25-40.

Good for you emarosa. It's great that you're young enough to know what you want to at that age. I certainly didn't. You'll have a nice long career in one of the fastest growing, most secure fields out there. What you may lack in life experience you'll (hopefully) make up for in energy, enthusiasm, and teachability. Good luck dude...

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I'll be 26 going on 27 when I graduate from nursing school, I'll be starting a 3-year BSN (with summers) BSN program in the Fall. Hope it goes by quickly!

I'm 58 and I was the only guy in my class. I got a lot of teasing and won the " Lone Wolf" award for being the only male in the class and not going crazy!!! Career change for me but I've been taking care of my post stroke wife for the last 8 years.

I'm 27 this month. Going into U of Maryland to start the program this next spring. (Currently working out the pre reqs at a CC).

I will be 21 when I start the program this fall

i will be 26 when i start this fall

Specializes in Trauma/Surgery ICU.

18 When I started. I'll be 20 when I graduate.

I'm about to start my Associates nursing program for RN and I'm 27. My previous degree is in Interior Design, so I'm pretty used to being around mostly women. Should be interesting though! I'm interested to see what the attrition rate is in 2 year programs.

LOL rockallnight really? Interior design? Do you get a lot of crap from your guy friends? I have at work, but I'm kind of used to it by now. I tell them all that someday I will be giving them a catheter and I'll remember all the s**t they gave me. I'll be so upset that my hands will start to shake and tremble. They fill in the blanks from there...

Started pre-reqs at 29. Hopefully I will be done with it all by 33. Second career for me, Ive been in carpentry for 13 years:banghead:

I'll hopefully start my program in Jan. and will be 42 when it begins. Late start I know but I plan on living to be 120 and working till I'm 95 so I should have a good long career :)
