Am I wasting my time going for my ADN?
An established RN friend of mine advised me that I wise in pursuing my BSN because a healthcare system in my current state (Maryland) is having their ADN RNs go back for their BSNs or get let go. Why not go for the projected need, you know? Here's some good news, I'm currently working on my pre-reqs at a community college. I've finished my first year and I plan on working through fall, winter, spring, and summer 1 & 2 semesters to finish. I was just told by one of the nursing preceptors that they're doing a hybrid program this fall where students will do clinicals on campus (they have a great program) while annexing with another state university to graduate with their BSNs at the same time. It's highly possible that could develop for you as well. Just make sure you network with your nursing department staff. There are also externship positions where you could work at a hospital and they could help pay for your classes while you're in clinicals so that you can get your BSN, which is what I think my route will be. Good luck, hope this helps.

Worried about my nursing supplies!?
First of all, congratu-freaking-lations! haha That is just so exciting. Secondly, those people are going to realize sooner or later what is important and that they can't isolate someone for having nice things. That is so petty it's not even funny. Remember, they're not in charge of how well you do and they're not going to affect your future. Be confident, be yourself, and your preceptors and instructors will absolutely see that. Just don't let the others even phase you. Good luck!

"Why does a nurse have to go to college?"
Sounds like he needs to come out of the 1800s.

Pre reqs for nursing !!! HELP
My first round, I wasn't majoring in nursing either. It was actually criminal justice. That's a shame it's taking you another semester longer though.

Pre reqs for nursing !!! HELP
Hey there, it's taking me two. I've already completed my first year and I'll be applying for the program and taking my TEAS this upcoming spring semester. I'm in Maryland and starting at a community college although I will be going for my BSN. Hope this helps!

Fall 2012 University of Maryland School of Nursing Students
Hey there, I have a couple of questions for you- 1) Are you in the BSN program? Or are you RN-BSN? 2) What's the typical cost per semester (provided you're not a campus resident)? I'm trying to get through the rest of my pre-reqs and trying to prepare for the whole BSN application circus and that tuition PDF for UMSoN is confusing as all halifax. Thanks! :)

Handling rude or dishonest patients
I agree with Nurseclm and MahzieLPN- I'm pretty sure that any other nurse/physician/tech that goes in there will pick up on the pt's behavior. Especially when they work with you all the time and know your quality of work. Furthermore, I understand that if you're providing pt education or you're checking in on them, that you have to document the specifics- time, what was asked/needed, etc. It's not like the pt can get into your chart and change their info. I would brief the nurse relieving me at end of shift as to what's going on and just remember to do a "cya" with your charting. I know I'm only a student, but I would like to say that I'm wanting to eventually get my CEN cert. I was a head trauma pt at Johns Hopkins and thanks to my nurses, I was able to bear the interesting treatment recieved by residents. I'm thankful for what you do and I'm sure that there are 99/100 patients besides the jerk you're dealing with who truly appreciate everything that you're doing for them. Sometimes, if people cannot articulate that to you, know that they may be thinking it. Hell, at one point I was throwing up in a basin but I was thinking about how greatful I was to have my ED RN Geoff helping me out. :^)
- Can you imagine having Spiderman as a patient?

"No nurses of color....."
It seems that any patient request that could potentially hamper the administration of effective patient care should be deemed invalid.

Using a white (dry erase) board to study
Something else that I did for a pharmacology research article, was to take those transparent sheet slip covers, use one for each paper, and then put it all in a binder. It works great to highlight and draw over the top of the paper and then erase later.

Using a white (dry erase) board to study
I love using white boards, especially for diagraming different aspects of a topic. It's been really useful for my 12-Lead EKG course in diagraming the hexoaxial plane. There are so many different views of the heart with using EKGs, it only makes sense to be able to just erase it once I've got the concept of one view and then move onto the next.

Mission accomplished..... RN CEN CCRN status

What is the first thing you are going to buy once you are a nurse?
Same here, bro. I'd like a house too. I currently live in a row home right by Johns Hopkins, one of the shadier areas of Baltimore. It'll be nice to have a yard again. I'm from the south originally and Lord knows I miss mowing grass.
