From what I have seen there are quite a few people on this board that are not fresh out of high school. My concern was that I was going to be the only person above the age of 20 in the nursing program (I hope that's not true). I haven't started yet, but hope to fall of 2004. My question is for all you students, what was the age ratio in your classes? Does there seem to be more 18 year olds compared to the above 25 age range? It just seems that they may look at you differently because you waited to go to school where as the 18 year olds jumped right in.. I hope I'm not alone!! So please, do tell!!
Thanks!

Our class of 140 is quite a mix. We have all ages. It is probably about 6o% traditional age college students, 40% non-traditional.
Also, nursing school is such a bonding experience that you get to know and like many of the 19 year olds in the class just as much as the students closer to your own age. None of the younger students in my class seem to have any problems with us old foagies!

A whole bunch of us are old. I'd say the 60:40 ratio is pretty accurate.

A lot of people in my program are 20-22. I'm 25 and we have some people my age, a lady in her 50's, a lady in her 30's. I guess most of us are in our 20's. Quite a difference from my 1st bachelor's! We were all 18 when we started and 22 when we finished. :)

Its a mixed bag in my class but it seems that the "young ones" are the minority. I live in a military town so there are a lot of women in their late 20's/early 30's married w/kids. I am one of the few (I feel) that doesn't have kids or a husband. This is out of a class of 80. I'd say at least 10% are over 40 & 10% are under 25 w/o families.

Of the ppl I know that are planning on going into the program. I'm so far the youngest at 27. Most are in their mid 30's early 40's.
I feel as comfortable with them as I do with ppl my own age. We all have the same goal in common.

I start LPN school in January. We met a month ago for an information session, and most of the people were over 25 (at least they looked it). There were a few people straight outta high school, but many over 30 and even over 40.

I am in my 3rd year at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Our class has 52 students. About 1/2 the class is over 20. And, about 10 are over 40. I am 24 myself and I had the same thoughts as you about not wanting the only one over 20.

I AM 34 YRS OLD AND I WENT TO COLLEGE THE FIRST TIME AT AGE 17 AND GOT MY DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENG. DECIDED AT AGE 32 TO BECOME A NURSE SO HERE I AM:)
ANYWAY MY CLASS HAS SOME 18-25S AND THE REST ARE 30 SOMETHINGS 1 GUY MIGHT BE 40. THE ONLY THING I SEE WITH SOME OF THE YOUNG ONES IS THAT THEY ARE NOT QUITE DISIPLINED(SP?) ENOUGH FOR THE WORK LOAD. BUT FOR THE MOST PART ALL IS WELL IN OUR CLASS. IF YOU ARE READY TO GET IT DONE ,JUST DO IT... GOOD LUCK
PS SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS!!! NOT YELLING JUST TO LAZY TO PUT THEM IN AT BEG OF SENTENCES:chuckle

There are 50 students in my class and I would say that the average age is early 30s.

In A / P I, we've got folks ranging from late teens to the mid-50s.
BTW, everyone gets along great.

The people in my pre-nursing classes are mostly "non-traditional" students. The youngest i've found is 22 and the oldest is in her 50's. I seem to be the norm @ 30 yrs old.
