I have an interview scheduled tomorrow in L&D. It's a 10 bed L&D, with a 4 bed triage area. The have 2 ORs, one for C/S and the other for T/L. I use to work at this L&D for 3 yrs before and while going to nursing school. But when I received my LPN 3/08 , they wouldn't use me in L&D and didnt have any positions available on M/B or Peds. So I left the hospital 7/08. I didnt get my RN until 3/09.
The manager that's there is not the manager I worked with. So, I am unfamiliar with her style and what she is looking for. My fear is, because I worked there for a while, they would expect me to know a lot. But, after being gone for almost 2 yrs, I dont remember a whole lot. I have been working in SNF mostly and did Med/Surg for 6months before moving back here. Im not sure what I am getting myself in to. I have read the other posts but I feel I already answer those questions correctly, but I still haven't been hired. This will make my 4th interview in a month. I did get a pt position at a SNF and an offer for a prison contract.. But I need something full-time. I dont know what I am doing wrong. If someone can please help me, I want to get this position tomorrow. I just need to figure out what I am doing wrong. Anyhelp would be appreciated!!! :bowingpur
Thanks,
Shawn

1) We have no way of knowing what, if anything, you're doing "wrong"
2) I imagine that you're a victim of the times and you have to try not to think along of the lines of doing anything wrong. There are just not that many jobs out there.
3) Good luck tomorrow. Your past experience with the hospital will no doubt serve you well.

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything "wrong". I think it's pretty impressive that you have been able to line up 4 interviews in a month with offers. The other places might have found someone that had more experience as an RN, but at least you are getting into interviews. You will get this job!! Let us know how it goes:):)

I don't think you are doing anything wrong at all. You sound like a hard working person and eager to work. Your manager should be happy to have someone with experience such as you've mentioned who is ready and willing to work.
I would say relax and go into the interview with a positive attitude. Don't be defeatist (and I'm not saying you were at all). In face assume you are going to get the position, and why shouldn't you? You sound like you have a lot to offer. And of course they should understand you will need to be trained and reoriented to the floor. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

I hope so. Last year when I was applying for a new grad position, at a different hospital, the the manager said he received 60 applications for each position. The last interview I had last week said that the hospital has money now and are able to hire a lot more nurses. But of course, I haven't heard from her yet. But that was for a PICU position. She said I should know something by Friday.

thanks, i need all the positives i can get. 3 of the last 4 positions i felt the interviews went great, and then when i check my application status, it says not selected. it's just a blow to my confidence i guess.

i've only had 4 interview with one offer, which was for the part-time position. the contract, i didnt count as an interview because it was with an agency located in ny. my only problem with taking that position is its only 13 weeks and then i am back to square one again, no ft position. thanks for the vote of confidence. i'm not usually optimistic because i dont like being let down. i prepare for the worst and hope for the best, if that makes any sense.

i know what you mean about always just preparing for the worst and hoping for the best, but sounds like you've got great credentials and should get a job soon. let us know and good luck:)

Good luck with your interview. Try to refrain from "what if" and other negative thinking. It can cloud your thinking as well as your mood and this might show at the wrong time. You say you are getting interviews. This is a good thing, so you should know that you are doing something right!

well, i had the interview this morning. it seems like it went well. the hiring manager had already heard about me from almost all of my past co-workers. she explained that there is a lot of catty stuff-as usual.. she was impressed that everyone seemed to like me. i knew everyone that was working today. i was afraid that would hender me. she asked questions like strengths/weaknesses. even though i have no nursing l&d experience i kept reinterating that i am a fast learner and love learning. as she reviewed my resume, she said she loved the fact that i am already back in school to get my bsn.
i was an overall positive interview. she pretty much told me i had the job. but, i have to wait for the offer before i get too excited. so now, im just sitting here waiting for the call to come.. i guess i've been tricked with the poker face i will call you back that i dont take anything to heart anymore until i get the formal offer... we will see, as i patiently await a call... :sofahider

that's awesome!! did she said when you would know?
Yes! Way to go. I too thought just through your post that you are a hard worker. And the fact that you are continuing already towards your BSN is definitely a plus and shows you are motivated!
