advise!!! nclex-RN considering nclex-PN

Hi to allnurses.com members,

I have taken the nclex-RN 3x and failed all 3, it was very devastating and no one to blame except me....trying to analyze what i did wrong just drives me crazy...

so im talking to my dad which is also a nurse and he recommended why not i take the NCLEX-PN for now, try that route and maybe i can pass that one..no offense to the PN takers, im not saying their exam is easier or that any nclex RN takers will pass that in flying colors, its just that i think i wanna consider doing that for my situation

so checking the website i will be paying the same amount as if i was registering for the nclex-RN

(CVS + NY application), the only difference is i can apply for an interim permit as an LPN (anyone pls correct me if im wrong).. im well aware that it would take 6-12mos for the whole process and believe me nothing in this world is easy..

so here's my question:

to those reading this thread, if you were me, after failing the RN exam so many times will you consider trying to take the PN exam first, then when you PASS, work, then somewhere down the line take he RN exam?

Take NCLEX-RN you studied under RN program. Graduated. You are meant to become RN.

i think if you switch to the pn now, you will be setting yourself up for a disaster!!! you studied in school for the rn, you took the nclex-rn... if you change to the pn exam, you must switch modes (in your mind, train of thought, etc.). the level of authority for a pn is different from the rn so you will basically be studying all over again. keep trying the rn exam. don't give up. but...if your financial situation is a factor, that would be the only reason why i would say take the pn exam.... if you pass the pn exam, at least you can work at that level, with more pay (than a cna), as you prepare for your rn exam.

NCLEX ABCDZ STRATEGY

A. Spend 1/3 of your time reviewing content you don't understand

B. Spend 2/3 of your time answering test question

C. Used most comfortable NCLEX review book for content.

D. Begin with the area that is most difficult for you or area that are least familiar

E. Use a good nursing reference manual or internet to find information

F. Define the disease in terms of pathophysiological process and understand the disease process.

G. Identify the early and late symptoms of disease

H. Identify most important or life-threatening complication associated with the disease.

I. Define the medical treatment.

J. Identify nursing intervention associate with early and late symptom of disease process

K. Identify what to teach patient and family to prevent in other to adapt to disease process.

L. list the area you need to review.

M. Answering question in a test mode will improve your test taking skills

N. Each time you answer question, check the number of question you answered correctly that will motivate you to read and study more next time.

O. Keep track of your score to see how you're improving in all area of your content.

P. If you answer less than 65% correctly, these is a WARNING SIGNAL!! Spend lots of time reviewing content and stop doing question on the weakest area

Q. If you answer 65-75% correctly your performance is improving and success is certain. Continue working with the content until your score is above 75%

R. Every wrong answer, identify why you answered it wrongly.

S. Practice 75- 85 question to known how you'll be prepared for NCLEX Exam and see how many you answered correctly

T. Do understand the question first, formulate your answer of hand and compare with the option given to see how close your answer!!

U. Anticipate Test question will increase in difficulty when you get the first question right!!

V. Do not panic if someone finishes before you!!

W. Do not CRAM CRAM!!

X. Remember that you have learned a great amount of nursing knowledge and the exam is only designed to determine whether you're able to practice safely @ entry level

Y. Keep a positive attitude and Pray!!

I just recieved my test results and I failed again :cry:, but I passed one section:up: and was near passing on all other sections:down:, so im not sure what i'm doing wrong. I will be trying the abc rules and see how I do wit that. If there is anyone else that can help me, I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks to everyone that replied to this thread. Now I have to pay another $225:twocents: to register for the test again.....

DO NOT RUSH to resit the exam. Start a new plan and work as if you haven't sat the exam before. Practise Practise questions and read the rationale. make sure you understand what the question is asking and the rationale will clarify for you

Not sure if it is the same when you are studying for a retake but at my school we have a 98% first time pass rate. They suggest that we take the nclex within 4 weeks of finishing school and not to self study for 2-3 months. We take finals, the school conducts 40 hrs of nclex review and within the next few weeks, take the nclex. Maybe that is the key for those of you that are retaking. If you enroll in a kaplan course or some other prep course, take the test right after it is through? Good Luck

i did self review for the first two..just basically did questions...

for the third one i did FEUER class for a week then did all the homework;;after that class i self reviewed again for 2mos before i took the nclex....

there is something wrong with the way i do it, i need to think of a new way to review for this nclex PN or RN.... i wasted so much years and money..i cant afford to fail again....its devastating and sometimes i even think its not meant for me but what can i do...i started this so i wanna finish it with a license....

try and try until you pass the nclex rn and you will pass, once you stick with it, eventually everyone passed. i too was in the similar situation, i had taken the rn exam and failed numerous times, i care not to mention the amount. like you i considered taking the pn exam, but i had wonderful friends who talked me out of it. my advice, is too review your test taking strategies. every time i sat the exam i would get near passing on the exam or would passed some areas and get near passing on the other. the last time i took it i really focus on my test taking strategies. i looked at the stem and tried to figure out exactly what they are asking me. then i went to the answering and eliminated the two i knew for sure was wrong. once i narrowed down my choice, i would look at the two i was left with, which made the most sense, which answer would keep the patient safe and within the scope of practice. from expensed is not that you don't know the material or have the knowledge, i believe is how you are answering the questions, i.e. your strageties. my advice will be to find classes that will help you focus on this. in addition, the last time i took the exam, everything i sat down to do questions, i would prepare to do 265 and i pretended like this was the real deal and i was in the exam room, i think it helped me tremendous. good luck!!!

Contact Hurst Review, they may be able to help you. They have an On-line as well as a Live review option for NCLEX RN and PN. The review is more of a class setting even online and that may help a whole lot. You can do it. Anything that God starts within us, He finishes.

Hello, I just want to ask you something... I took Nclex last week, and I am having a bad pop up at Pearson View Trick... I bet you already took LPN.. I just want to ask if you submit a separate credentials to BON Nclex-RN and BOUN Nclex PN or you have to just ask the BON to submit a copy to Board of Vocational nurse(Nclex-PN).... Thank you?
