Hello AllNurses! I am currently and continuously, discussing as to how me and my wife would go and decide with my present situation.
I am currently living in a US territory. I have some 2 years hospital experience from the Philippines. And now I am working as an ER Technician. Recently, I passed my NCLEX RN, and have started sending applications around.
A private ambulatory surgery center is offering a mon-fri 7a to 4p job with a starting pay of $20. OTs are not often and sometimes you dont get the full 80 hrs due to countdown when cases are low.
With the hospital, the entry level nurse is about $17 with some benefits. Like OT (guaranteed due to low staffing) weekend pay and on calls. But this I have to wait for now, no offers yet and may take 2 months or even longer bec of slow pacing and hosp just hired about 17 new RNs the past 2 months.
Now, 3 weeks have passed since I got my license, Im still an ERT. And still yet to decide.
Any thoughts please.

Take the OT and as long as your don't have to sign a contract, keep looking while you are there. Any RN experience is better than none at all!
The hospital Im working at right now, interviewed me for the staff 1 position last week. I declined the surgery center already ($20/hr). I believe if the hosp wont honor my experience from Philippines the usual offer for entry level is $17. But I really want ER.
I hope they hire me soon. The ER im working at right now is very short staffed.

Some hospitals take a while before they call back. They usually give you a time frame on when they are going to make a decision after an interview, so follow up on them if they are past those dates already. In the mean time, keep on applying! Good luck! :)
