i am new to this forum. i am a r.n. in philippines and will migrate in canada (vancouver). i haven't actually practiced my profession as a nurse in hospital setting instead as a company nurse.

actually i don't know have an idea  as to what to do to become a r.n. in canada.

should i need to take up another how many years of nursing in canada?

what should i do? kindly help me please!! thanks a lot.

Hi all... I have a sister who is nursing graduate from the Philippines and she wants to migrate here in Winnipeg. She has more than a year of experience as a nurse back in the Philippines. The question is how can she practice what she had taken as a course in the Phil here in Winnipeg. Does she needs to take up any refresher course? What type of application is she gonna use (working visa, permanent resident...) Please help...

She is going to need to go thru the licensure process before she does a thing. Canada actually requires the local license so it is a good thing that she has it already done.

She will ultimately wish to get the landed immigrant visa, which is similar to the green card that we have in the US.

There are threads here that have all of the contact information for the province. I would have her start with that.

Hi Suzanne,

Im kinda new at this. And im kind of shy to ask this but here goes. Where can i find the thread?

At the top of this page, you will see a search engine, just like there is on Google or Yahoo. Just put in key words, such as licensure in Winnipeg, or something similar and it will take you to the threads on that topic.

You can find anything that way.

Thank you so much... Is it better to apply using the CRNBC? Once you got all the requirements and passed all the exam is it 100% assurance that my sister will get a nursing job in BC? And is CRNBC will be the one processing her papers so she can migrate to Canada? Because I'm still thinking of having her apply in British Columbia rather than in Winnipeg.

CNRBC is NOT an exam. It is the agency which issues practice permits.

It makes no sense to obtain a practice permit in British Columbia and then move to MB. You need a permit in the province that you live and work in. It just takes extra time and money.

hello there.

my husband and i came here in canada just this january 20 under working visa - the fastest way to go for Pinoy nurses rather than waiting for FSK approval.

you must first apply for CRNBC registration, application fee is about canadian $250 which includes criminal check fee. im not sure if your being a company nurse would count. you need hospital exprience for at least 500 hours for the last 5 yrs or else you will need a refresher course if you graduated more than 5 years ago. once your credentials get approve - you will also pay for the interim/temporary permit for $30/month for max of 9 mos. unlike US, here you first must work for 3 mos b4 you can take ur licensure exam and you will wait for another 2-3 mos for the result of the exam.

4 year nursing course is a must in BC and other provinces like Ontario.

Tnx mctina_20 for the info..

I just would like to know, when you applied for the hospital, did you go thru an agency here in the philippines?...tnx...

hi nurses!.. well, my registration with the CRNBC is on going and am still waiting for the confirmation letter from them... i would just want to ask if how many months would it take to process that registration... i already completed all the requirements they need and sent it... tanx

congratulations! hmmm i think it takes about 14 working days? i'm not too sure.. the rest of my forms came in about 2 weeks after i called in to check if crnbc received all my documents :)

do you have an idea if what is CRNE all about?

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

That seems an odd question. The CRNE or Canadian Registered Nurse Exam tests nursing knowledge and skills against the standards set by the Canadian Nurses Association as the basic competencies for entry to practice as a registered nurse in Canada. There is slightly less emphasis on the clinical and pathophysiological and more on the psychosocial compared to the NCLEX. It's written three times a year as a paper and pencil exam and is only available in select cities across the country. It's a pass/fail exam and candidates first must receive permission from one of the provincial regulatory bodies to sit the exam and then may only have three tries to obtain a passing score. Currently the exam is entirely multiple choice questions, but by some time next year there will once again be a number of short answer questions included.

hi!!i received the letter that I'm eligible to get an employer at BC and it says there that i have to complete 250hrs before i sit to their exam.I just want toknow the next step to get to canada to sit for exam.I'm a newly Grad and licensed but do not have experience.
