Advice Needed!

hello all!

so during my clinical rotation in the er i was encouraged by the night shift nurse manager to come back and apply for a position after graduation. i came back to follow up on that, and the nm told me that yes they did have a few positions and that i should apply (weird that no positions are posted on their website though). so i get a call back about 5 days after visiting the nm telling me to come in for an interview. i interview with the day shift nm and she says that there are some positions at night, but due to a hiring freeze i may not get a call back right away, but she offered to take me on a tour of the er (which i guess meant i got the job but i didn't need the tour because i did my clinical rotation there lol, which she realized too lol) so she said that the nurse recruiter would be contacting me from this point on about the situation.

so i call the nurse recruiter about 2 weeks later, and she explained that she is waiting for her boss to sign off on something to open up hiring for the positions so she can start calling people back. according to her there are about two dozen ''new hires'' (for various units throughout the hospital) waiting like me to start orientation, but she doesn't know when the freeze will be lifted, and she told me not to tell my current employer as yet when i'm leaving and that they at the hospital are still interested in hiring me and that she will call me back as soon as she gets the green light.

so finally what i need some advice on is do i continue my job search? it's tough getting a job out here, and it's not like most places are hiring. i do think i have a good chance at being hiring at a certain other hospital because of a certain circumstance, but i'm wondering if i should go all out job searching if i know i'll be working there within a few months. i currently have a nursing job, so it's not like i'm losing much nursing experience or totally in need of employment. any advice?

Based on reading how things sometimes fall through, I would continue the job search. For example, last year I was hired by two home health companies and stopped searching. In more than one year, neither has provided me any work. I should have kept looking. I am not the only one. There have been others who posted that job offers have been rescinded. You have to look out for yourself. Good luck.

thanks! i am still searching, it's just frustrating and irritating at times!

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. It is not an original saying but it is so true. In these rough economic times I would hang on to the job you have while you are looking. Before you quit the sure thing make sure that you have an iron clad commitment from your future employer. Good luck with you job search.

Please continue your job search. This hiring freeze could lasts for months and you have to make a living.

This hiring freeze everywhere stinks. I would definitely keep in contact with the nurse in the ER as well as the nurse recruiter at that hospital. In the mean time I would keep looking for other jobs and when one comes around I would take it. that way you gain experience and when there is an opening in the ER where you did your clinicals at, I would then take that job! Good luck.
