Nursing Students NCLEX

Advice needed...please!!!

Daughter has taken RN NCLEX 5 times and failed...she has taken Kaplan review, reviewed priorities and delegation in nursing...Latchey...Saunders book and cards. HESI, she knows the material...just gets mental block...anxiety...tried to find a tutor...no luck... good family support...on antianxiety meds and for ADD...:confused:how can she get past this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Try to get an appointment with a professional educator. My friend got diagnosed with ADHD and went to the student disabilities office at our school and got lots of help there. I would suggest that she start with that office on her campus. If they can't help her they should be able to give a referral or she can see someone in her nursing school for a referral to a tutor.

thanks for the post...we have tried both colleges in our area for tutor but no luck...

pray and have patience. its hard to accept but people are passing so everyone will pass.

thank you!!!!! any suggestions/advice very much appreciated:)

I will pray for you-maybe there are refresher courses you can take- I am just a mom of a recent grad and know nothing about this stuff- I wish you the best

I pray that you or your grad never have to face this turmoil, frustration, pain, hurt, tears...good luck

I am starting as a student so cannot relate to the stresses of nursing school except what I know from reading and what is expected. My question is how did she pass all her school exams and the final exit exam (if there was one)? You indicated she knows the material, but has anxiety and I initially thought well will she get this anxiety in an emergency with a person not just answering questions on a test. I don't want that to be a negative or bad comment, but something I think your dtr. should really think about and only she can answer that. I also think you need to take Caliotter3 advice and go back to the school your dtr. graduated from....not a different school and talk to disabilities office. They really are obligated to help you or they can have a problem on their hands based on she does have a diagnosis. Good luck as your dtr. worked hard and she deserves to move forward.

I am not attempting to be flippant or cold-hearted, but I think that after a certain point it's time to realize that not everyone is cut out to succeed as a nurse. I know I've heard people say that nurses who get by with C's in nursing school and pass the NCLEX, or who have taken the NCLEX multiple times before passing it, are still nurses. That may be true, but if I were a patient I wouldn't want one as a nurse.

I could see encouraging her if she had failed it once of twice. But FIVE times? Clearly the writing is on the wall. I would counsel her to quit banging her head against the wall and explore other options.

thanks for the info... I know you are trying to help, but when I was in nursing school there was a lady that made 99-100+ on exams...but when it came to clinicals she almost failed...think about that when there is an emergency...my daughter made high 70's -80's on nclex practice test...and did great on her clinicals...I have seen too many nurses who are there for a paycheck and I have seen who truly care and have a heart and kept perservering and are excellent nurses...unfortunately she takes after me...its called test anxiety...if you don't have test anixety there is no way to relate...what good is it to run away from a situation...you will always wonder what if???? The best way to conquer fear/anxiety is to go through it...not above, not below, not around. but, through it with your head held high!!!!!!!

Hi! :)

Wow, AZO49088's post is very discouraging!! That is the kind of negativity you want your daughter to stay away from. I myself just passed on my 6th try and let me tell you, once you pass your NCLEX, down the road no one is going ask did you pass your 1st try, 5th try or 10th try. Not passing the 1st or 2nd time doesn't mean 1 nurse is going to be better than the next. The important thing is taking care of the patient in a safe and compassionate way! Do not to give up! If she made it through nursing school, she can pass the NCLEX. I didn't have ADD, but I certainly am bad with anxiety. I used Linda Lacharity's book but what mostly helped me was a review course by Sylvia Rayfield & Associates. The instructor was phenomenal and such a wealth of knowledge! I stayed calm and was positive during my last attempt at the NCLEX. Stay away from negativity and make a study schedule, try to understand the reasoning behind the content or scope of the problem, and do practice questions. It will all come together! Please don't give up! :)

Well...I disagree with u..I graduated from one of the toughest nursing school in my state...Except for 5 students out of 46, everyone else made C in theory in our class...When it comes to clinical and skills , I always had an A....but I was bad test taker...The grades never reflect if u r going to be good nurse or bad...and by the way, I know my patients loved me and my instructors too ...and I know some students in my class who made an A but they were so rude....so I believe I will be wonderful nurse..and I did pass NCLEX on first try.....
