My sweetie is finally haveing her first baby and will be a working mom and breast feeding.
We need advice from moms who have been there about the best nipple/bottle to support breast feeding.
I have thrown too much information her way and she is confused.
When she was a babe Playtex was new and I used it. Found she initially rejected it. It was nothing like the breast. I did not pump only hand expressed in those days. I rarely had to bottle nurse while breast feeding.
There are a lot of new ones out there. I am inclined to advice a conventional shape nipple that is a hard draw. With a conventional non disposable bottle that is angled for upright feeding. Poor woman I have said so much I think she just needs someone to tell her a specific bottle and nipple period.

When I asked the same question of my breastfeeding firends several weeks ago, Avent was suggested to me. And... it has been successful.
I have a 10 day old son that MUST be able to take a bottle because I'm still in school. I pumped several ounces on day 2 and 3 and he willingly took a bottle at 80 hours of age when I went in to take a makeup test.
Over the last week he's done well going between the breast and bottle. It's obvious that he PREFERS breast at this point, so I can tell that the Avent nipple isn't so "easy" that he would rather keep taking a bottle over the breast.
The nipples are numbered, indicating the ease of flow, which is intended to gradually increase as baby gets older/bigger.
Good Luck!!!

To be honest, I tried every nipple out there and my son would not take any of them. (as he climbs up on my lap for mommy milk :chuckle
When I went back to work 4 months after he was born, my in-laws or my husband would bring him into work to breastfeed. I worked part-time so that was fairly easy. I also pumped at work to keep my milk supply up and we gave him milk in a spoon.
Of course I'm still mad that I had to go back to work in the first place. :)

I use a nuk nipple by gerber. Its worked with my last two and my little gal now... there are times when DH might bring her to work for me to nurse...good thing I only work a few minutes away.

Congrats on the new baby!
I breastfed both my babies for a years, and they did great with AVENT & Playtex with the squared top nipple and drop-in bag. I was unable to pump so in the bottle they got lactose-free formula. They both switched back and forth easily.
You have probably heard a bunch of stuff about nipples, pacifiers etc & breastfeeding, I think it's individual preference just like all parenting choices. You have to do what works for your baby & family. Both mine had to have alot of heel sticks since I was diabetic--the pacifier really got them through those!! And both had low BS and had to be given sugar water within hours after being born. I was worried at first about nipple confusion but.....they did great!
Good Luck!

HI,
I would recommend an article by Dee Kassing, IBCLC called "Bottlefeeding to Reinforce Breastfeeding" It was originally in the Journal of Human Lactation but you can get it on KellyMom.com
Hope this helps!

ITA with Avent. BUT what i did and has worked for me and the LC's here thought it was great is to compare what your nipple looks like to the bottle nipple. When its erect that is, for me it was hands down Avent. She's bottle fed when i work, and nurses fine when i'm home so she's not having any trouble going back and forth. They are $$$ but worth it IMO. And remember a bf baby should always use a newborn nipple (flow is slower like the breast).
