Addison's and Cushing's

Thank you for those who helped me out with the delusional thinker question.....

Now, I have seen quite a few nervous testers posting for clarification on Addison's. I have a pretty over-all idea, but does anyone have a mneumonic or some helpful way to put my ambiguity to rest!?! I have a funny thing that I do now....I think of Addison on Grey's anatomy with her coppery hair (for the pigmented skin)...hahah. anything better though for the rest of the symptoms? :uhoh3:

Thanks guys,

I test on wednesday!!!!!!!! aHH

I remember it this way....

Adrenal Cortex Diseases begin with A or C

Addison's -Add-A-Sone (steriod) sone's are steriods

Under sectretion...patient goes into shock extremely easy

Cushing's-I remeber by Cush-Man

A mans face on the moon...since individual may have moonface, trunkal obesity, thin extremities, hypergylcemia, immune system suppressed etc...

Graves disease: Their hyper and run their self in the grave

Conn's disease- retention of sodium and water and over secretion of aldosterone

Con "Big Aldosterone"

Well, I have tried twice to post scanned images into two new threads but it's just not happening. If I can figure this out or get it to work in another way, I'll put it up! Sorry.....life happens.

Siri is helping me to figure this out. Yeesh, I hope it's worth it after all! :)

Addison- too little hormone

Cushing- too many hormone, therefore too many steroids, increase BG, b/c inhibit insulin production, alter immune system, protein synthesis, brittle bones b/c of the steroids

i'll be watching

The way I remember is:

Adison has the letter D in it which means DOWN (so it's low corticosteroid hormone)

Cushing has the letter U in it which means UP (so it's up as in going up - high amount of the hormone)

Hubba,

I like ur cushman visual - it's easier to remmeber. Thank a lot again. Do you have any other such tips to remember?

And anyone else has such tips? It really makes it so mcuh easier to remember all that info. u are suppose to remember. Plz share if u do. Thank you so much guys.

I think of Addison's as I need to add some cortisol, and Cushing's as cushy from too much cortisol.

I remember Cushings because the person looks like a pin cushion. They are large trunked and their arms and legs are skinny like pins. Cushings is too much cortisol and I know the S/E of corticosteroids which makes you look like you have cushings.

I believe JFK had Addisons and I remember my professor saying "can you imagine a president who has very little cortisol, therefore decreased stress coping." This is such a bizarre fact that it just always stuck with me.

Abe Lincoln supposedly had acromegaly.

I remember things that way.
