Hey everyone!

So heres the deal, I have been working as an LPN for about 1 1/2 years now, in the geriatric field of home health. Now the perfect opportunity has come my way, an opening in a pediatric emergency room! Not only have I always had a passion for emergency medicine but also childen. So you can imagine, I updated my resume as best as I could and wrote an extensive cover letter. I sent them via internet (as per hospital policy) and I went ahead and mailed a hard copy. I have tried calling to show up in person to introduce myself but they will not allow it unless I have an interview with the human resources director. Now the question of the century is... I found the human resources director on facebook! If I add her and send her a message introducing myself, would that come off as stalkerish or just very interested? I just want this opportunity so badly and I know that it is a job that I will enjoy sooooo much and get so much experience from! Please help me fellow nurses

The fact that you posted this question on a public forum makes me believe that you don't really think you should. Perhaps you were looking for validation from that little voice inside your head that says DON'T EVEN GO THERE!!!

You have your validation now. What you COULD do is to write a very brief letter addressed to the NM stating that you submitted your resume and that you are looking forward to the possibility of working at his/her facility. Keep it short. Send only one letter, and let it go.

Good luck to you!

This is a good idea and perfectly acceptable and expected in the work world.

Stalkerish. Do you know anyone at that hospital, or know anyone who knows anyone who could introduce you or put in a good word?

Specializes in Tele, Stepdown, Med/Surg, education.

do that on LINKedin. I think that's how you spell it.

Specializes in floor to ICU.

Know a nurse that was fired over FB. She named the hospital she worked for and had a "revealing" shirt on in one of her pics. Her fault and not necessarily FB, I guess. Still, lots of nurses in my hospital are still on FB and pester me about joining. I am not a member (much to the dismay of numerous friends) but if I ever did have an account there is NO WAY I would "friend" anyone from work.

Never mix business with pleasure.

NO! it makes it easy for everyone you work with to find you and know your business

Specializes in Home Care.

I won't even add my co-workers to FB.

I keep distance between my personal and professional life.

Specializes in FNP.

I haven't read past the OP, so excuse me if it has been said already, but the answer is "OM*G, you can't be serious." And if that isn't clear enough, he!! no.
