Hey guys/gals I'm just wondering if their is anyone applying for this upcoming fy 2016 for direct commission into the navy. I guess I should have mentioned that I was referring to the nurse corps.
Being persistent is key to making sure your package makes it to that first board. With the numbers being as small as they are for each speciality, one board is all they need to meet the quotas for the year.
I was in your spot last year, so I know what it feels like to be in limbo waiting for an answer
That is exactly what my recruiter said. He is anticipating roughly 20 spots total for direct accession. That's not very many considering its across the country. This is my one and only chance at it since I will be 42 by April. Best I can say is that I will do all that I can so that my first and only attempt at being commissioned leaves me with no regrets that I could have done more.

This will not be your only chance since you have 4 years of active already. Those 4 years will increase your age to 46 since you would be able to complete 20 years for retirement before the MRD age of 62. With that being g said your age will be a factor because of the nature of the military and it being a young man's game.
I was an alternate for FY15. I was told last month that I have been selected for commission. There was a plan to have me comissioned by August and to ODS however, that did not go through. I was recently told that I will be comissioned for FY16. I am waiting to find out when I will be attending ODS. Hopefully, there will be more spots open this year than last year! Best of luck to everyone!

Morning navywifeRN. I contacted my recruiter b/c i had no idea what an alternate meant in the commissioning process. He left me with the feeling but not necessarly correct that many of the alternates are for medsurg. Is that correct? Btw let me know how things are moving along for you.
Secondly, i am waiting for a response on the age criteria. My recruiter knew i had 4 years of active duty so i am a little surprised i am hearing this for the first time from my friends on this forum. I believe what you said but of course i need confirmation. Tyvm for bringing this to my attention!
Interes5ing news for you guys! So i had to have a ECG because of my age. Apparently anyone over age 40 needs lipid panel and ECG. I found that i have resting hr of 46. Peaked t waves. Sinus arrythmia with posssible left ventricle hypertrophy. Now i am a critical care nurse trained to read 12 lead ecg's and all the objective data on the 12 lead demonstrates athletes heart. Lol. Seems that anyone regardless of past medical hx with hr of 46 is deemed a risk.
For the sake of argument i agreeded to a Echocardiogram thursday at 0800.

My specialty is ER/Trauma. I'm pretty sure alternates were selected for all specialties for the most recent boards. I don't think the specialty matters. The only thing I am waiting for right now is getting in touch with the detailer (as that is not the easiest task). I've been told he is the one that will determine which ODS start date I attend. It's a bit of a waiting game for now. I'll be sure to keep you all updated. Best of luck to you with your ECHO!

Thanks vinstafa for the input. I've been in constant contact with my recruiter and vice versa. He has constantly been asking me if I am still interested in being commissioned.
