accused of verbal abuse

Hi everyone I am new to this site I have been an LPN for almost 3 years. I was recently suspended without pay due to being accused of verbal abuse. I have been unable to find out exactly what it is that I did wrong. I know I did have an incident with the resident. The resident became up set cried for a few seconds and then yelled at me. Work isn't giving me an answer so I emailed the NY BON. I did not have to go infront of the state. I was let go and told it was due to not upholding their core values. I did not yell or curse or speak down to the resident.

Can they suspend me with out a weeks pay?

Can they not tell me what I did wrong?

I am very confused.

There are states where you can be fired without any reason at all from my understanding.

Yep, at will states. I know Texas is one of them, but I don't know if NY is.

You stated you "had an incident with the patient". Did they not have a sit down with you to discuss this? Did you recall the alleged event with them verbally or written? Was a report written up? Was there a witness to the incident that occurred? Something is missing.

I find it very odd that they didn't discuss the specific situation with you.

Sorry the whole things kinda of confusing just trying to be carefu about how much I say. After being suspended sunday I had to sit down with the don and adon and give a statement verbally and then they had Me write it down. But I was never told what I exactly I did. I was told it was state reportable and that if the state came in I would have to come back in and talk to then. I was let go today due to not up holding their core values. I was told the state had investigated it. I tried calling HR back since they are the ones who told me I was fired but they haven't returned my call and the DON Isn't returning my calls either. I am assuming that the allegation of verbal abuse didn't have enough support or I would have been fired for that tho correct?

Why do you have to ask if you were fired??

I guess your next action would be to call your state BON and find out what is really happening since you said they investigated you. That's probably the only way you are going to find out what claims were made against you, and to see if your nursing license is in jeopardy.
