Accepted!!

Published

I just got my acceptance letter on Thursday to start nursing school in January! I'm beyond excited and proud of myself! Also terrified, because that means I have to leave my job that I've been with for 6 years, and find a new one that will work with my school schedule. Any tips on time management while working and going to school? Also, any ideas on what I should go ahead and get? I go to orientation on the 23rd, so I'll know more then, but I like to be prepared as far ahead as possible!

I wouldn't buy supplies at this point, but it might be a good idea to make sure your immunizations are up to date.

Don't make any big changes until after orientation. After that, you should have a good general idea of what your schedule will typically be like, and what's expected from you. Definitely don't quit a job that you've been at for that long until you know your schools scheduling and that there's absolutely no way your job can work with that. While you're going through school, a stable job is more important than a flexible job. Even if you can just get cut down to part time on weekends, then add a mcjob a couple nights to make up the difference, it's worth it. College is hard, you don't need the added stress of a bad job on top of it.

Congrats!!

I just started this semester. I wouldn't buy anything until after orientation. I bought two sets of new scrubs and ordered the required patch and had them sewed on before I went. At orientation they had two huge boxes full of scrubs with patches that former students had donated and they were selling them for $5 a set. DOH!

Also, the school had a really really sweet deal on fantastic stethoscopes if you ordered them through the school.

And like the previous person said, MAKE SURE YOU IMMUNIZATIONS ARE UP TO DATE. NOW.

I found out that my mumps shot from being a kid didn't show up. I had two get two shots a month apart and I barely made the deadline!
