Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

Im sure someone has asked already, but what of our uniforms can we buy on our own, other than shoes ? I ordered the polo shirts already, and I just want to start getting things together.

In a previous post on the hopefuls board someone mentioned you can buy your own khaki pants. Anything that needs the patches sewn on I would suggest you get from meridys. I'm having trouble deciding what size to order as I have lost weight and am in between sizes. It would be helpful for me if they have samples of the sizes at orientation.

BTW has there been a decision on whether or not we are going to try to meet? It's been mentioned but I don't remember seeing much else about it.

Do the shoes have to be all white or can stuff like a Nike check or logo be a different color?

So has anyone started buying the other supplies such as stethoscope and bp cuff? I know they said the profs prefer the littman cardiology III but I'm not sure that's the one I want to go with. Littman is the best brand to go with but there are so many versions to choose from. Any ideas or thoughts on this?

I got the Littmann cardio III just because... I'm stupid I guess :p I just thought it may be a clearer sound or something... I dunno! I got it from allheart.com and had a coupon code for $20 off. I also got my bp cuff on there (with my name embroidered so it didn't "walk off" for only $4.95). My bp cuff was only around $10.

I talked to the lady at stat-line today about the skills kit and she only had one left. She said she would be getting more in 2 weeks. I'm going to wait until then to pick mine up. I have too much to do this week.

You've lost weight and I've found it! I've gained 25 pounds since starting school in January of 09! I'm hoping that I'll do a bit more moving around in the program and not so much sitting in front of a computer or in class, writing, researching and then getting up for a snack... but I digress.

I would LOVE to meet! However it would depend on how much other schoolwork I get done this week to see if I will have time over the weekend. I have so much due in my other classes its not even funny! I live in Mandarin. Where does everyone else that wants to meet live? Even if I could only meet for an hour, I would still like to do it.

I thought they had to be all white, but I'm not sure...

Im not really in a rush buying the supplies right now since classes start on May 10th which gives us a lot of time.

I think I'll wait till after orientation to start looking.

Anybody get their titer results yet form Northside Clinic. Do they call you when its ready or what?

I went ahead and ordered the cardiology III stethoscope and had it engraved with my name on it. I was reading many posts comparing different types of stethoscopes and the cardiology III seems to be pretty good from what I've read. Of course, it's all just based on personal preference. But I figured it was an investment, so I shelled out the money....and it's A LOT of money

I'll be leaving for Las Vegas this weekend (a surprise birthday trip for my husband who just turned the big 4-0), so I won't be able to meet up with the group if you get together soon. But hopefully we can talk to each other during orientation.

When I went in to have my PPD read on Monday, they handed me the 2 results they had in already. I'm sure they have yours by now, but I would call to make sure.

Does anyone know how late Northside Clinic is open, or have a phone number? I can't seem to find that info in the packet.

Interesting. I got my PPD results read Monday but they they'd have it in a couple of days. I'll call and see.

Also, I got the number by just googling it. Are we allowed to post phone numbers?

here's the link which includes it anyway.
