Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

OK,

Here is a list of Nursing Professors with info from Rate my professor.

May it serve you well!

Here's an idea... I'm going to print this list out and highlight the highest ranking profs in yellow, second in orange, etc... While it probably will not be what I base my entire decision on, it may help if I'm down to two and can't decide.

Thanks again, Jennifer!

good idea.

I was just gonna write down the "DO NOT TAKE" teachers which would have been the ones with the overall at 2 or lower and the "TAKE IF YOU CAN" teachers.

Your idea is much better.

I wonder what hospitals we have to choose from. Does anyone know this?

Also, does the hospital we choose have anything to do with where we attend classes or is this a "day vs. night" thing. I've heard some people say that they take classes at North campus and some people take theirs at Deerwood... how is this determined?

From what I've heard, everybody takes classes at North Campus except the Night time people who go to Deerwood.

Found this from the other topic:

Right now our option for 1st Term are Memorial, Baptist Dt and Baptist beaches thats it...For daytime all classes are at North Campus and night classes are at Deerwood

I fits only 3 choices for hospital and we're gonna go once a week, Im gonna be focusing on the teachers.

Is choosing the teachers first come, first serve?

No, they use a "lotto" system where you pick numbers, I believe. That is what everybody is talking about when they say "lotto" and what number you get is the order in which people will choose.

If I'm understanding correctly, you pick a particular section and get the teachers and hospital assigned to that section. That is IF i'm understanding the other posts from terms past correctly.

Also, there is more than one "Baptist" and "Memorial"... will we get to choose which branch?

You are correct,

Before lunch they will pass out a list of classes. There are 2 sections per page, the only difference between those two sections is the clinical location. 4 classes, dates, times and instructors are listed (they will be the same except for clinicals). There are 12 seats per section, 24 seats per class(page). Pick your first, second and third choice. I don't know how many sections they will have this term. After the lunch break we line up and pull a number from a hat. #1 picks first. Watch the color of the paper and you can figure out which sections are filling up. They let you know when a section is full. Once you are in a section they have you fill out your colored paper and return it. The next day you register for those classes. If you choose different from the day before... they can drop you.

VERY informative! Thank you so much butterflymom!

So has anyone started buying the other supplies such as stethoscope and bp cuff? I know they said the profs prefer the littman cardiology III but I'm not sure that's the one I want to go with. Littman is the best brand to go with but there are so many versions to choose from. Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Does anyone know how the night and weekend lotto goes? With only 24 of us, there can't be too many professors to choose from.

Hi,

I posted this to the old chat. Some haven't joined us yet.

First Term classes

NUR1110 Nursing Concepts

NUR1022C Nursing Techniques (Includes Clinicals)

NUR1060C Health Assessment across the Lifespan

NUR1140 Pharmacology and Nutrition in Health and Illness.

If there are only 24 in the nights - you probably don't get a choice. If there are 48 then you would have 2 choices and days would have 2 choices. It will be interesting to find out!

I was at the outlet mall today and walked past the new scrub outlet. They have a few Littmanns and I loved the lightweight one- it is so light, very comfortable, nice colors, etc... It was $59 retail in their store but I saw it for $48 online. I question purchasing a $150 stethoscope, I've heard it doesn't matter that much, they can easily "wander off", etc... etc...

I tend to agree with you. In LPN school we just bought whatever stethoscope we wanted to buy. They also didn't suggest a particular one and the one I bought worked just fine. I'm going to go with a Littman but a cheaper one than the cardiology III. I figure we are spending enough.
