Hey everybody!
I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)
I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.
I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.
What we found is that the study guides took a lot of work and usually have nothing to do with the test. I would focus on PP's and the text.
Um, yeah- we figured that out during the test. Next time I'll be sure to read every square inch of the text, focusing on the most obscure parts, things not in the powerpoints, and make sure to not bother with the study guide. Hopefully our next exam will at the very least be coherently written. The last one looked like my 4 year old created it.
Hi everyone, I'm a fall hopeful, but I have 203 points so I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed! I was just wondering, does anyone know their schedule, for the day classes, for the whole 15 months? I work 2pm-10pm full time, and am just wondering how I will work my schedule around school. Are there any random days where you have to be at class at like 8pm or something? I'm sure clinicals near the end will be 7a to 7p, that's a given....I'm just kinda worried about keeping my job; I have a dog and a cat to support!

LOL! Yeah, really!

I can't speak for all 4 terms but term 1 is similar to this... Monday: Test 3-5:30, Tuesday: Class 9-12, Wednesday: Class 9-12 and 1-4, Thursday: Off, Friday: Class 8-1:30 (first seven weeks)... There are variations... mainly in what day will be your long days, which will be your short days, and which day has no scheduled class... but everyone has 1 day they stay until 4 and another day scheduled 8 til 1:30... and ALL TERM 1 DAY STUDENTS TEST FROM 3-5:30pm NO EXCEPTIONS. Term 1 clinicals start on week 8 and would be on whichever day is your sections 8-1:30 day... Clinicals however are 7am-1:30pm (or 6:45-1:15). On top of your scheduled classes, there are days you are required to be available for volunteer work, mandatory trainings, etc... and the day before clinicals each week, you are required to pick up your assignment at the hospital in uniform. So for me, for example I will have to drive across town to the Beach on my supposed day off, in uniform and then spend the remainder oft he day writing up a care plan. Each night we have about 3 chapters of reading to complete on top of things we are just expected to know. I would suggest maybe seeing if your employer would agree to scale back your hours or perhaps taking a leave at least until after term 1.
