accepted Emory students fall 2009

Published

I have just been accepted to the Emory BSN nursing program for fall 2009 and I just wanted to know if other accepted students would like us to communicate and help each other prepare for the fall. We can discuss anything from immunization, PDA, housing to financial aid.

I would also like current student and alumni to mentor us in order to make our preparation smoother. Any advice is welcome since you've been there before from what type of stethoscope to which brand of PDA to buy.

I am a very meticulous person and would like every thing to go perfectly that is why I need all the advice that I can get so that come August, we would all be ready and prepared for the challenging two years ahead of us.

Thanks to all who will join the group and to all who will advise us.

Really appreciated.

Hello Again,

Yup I was offered the NEAT and will be working at Crawford Long when I graduate. Thankfully my having to re-take pharm did not result in my losing the scholarship. I did get a couple of other little scholarships a few thousand here and there from having filled out the fafsa and the css profile. It will tell you on OPUS if you were awarded "grant" money. Mine was from and older lady who had given funds to the school (and is since deceased) I know this because I called one day and went to the office to see if I could say thank you to the kind lady that gave me $6,000 towards my nursing school studies....and they told me she had passed years ago and just has a fund set up. Anywho I wish you best of luck!! I can't wait to get back to Emory in the fall. It really is a wonderful program with amazing professors.

much love,

Jess

Hi Jess!

Do the professors mind the students having laptops in class? :typing Also, I have the iphone and it does everything a PDA does, do you think that will be okay? One last question: Was your financial aid enough to cover everything, or did you still have to pay out of pocket?

Great questions! I'd like to know too! Also when do you find out whether or not you will get NEAT?

They do not mind at all if you have laptops in class! its actually encouraged. Lots of students take notes on their laptops or follow along with the classes powerpoint slides, so no worries there. Not sure if the Iphone works with the nursing central software (which is the the program they will have you put on the PDA) you could give the IT help desk a call, their number is 404 727 7777. I think that the iphone was on the list of ones that is not compatible though. They will send you a letter in the summer though. As for financial aid I did end up having and un sub) that I was given through FAFSA. I recieved the NEAT which is $7,500 a semester (working out to 50% of the cost of tution at the end). The people at financial aid are very helpful though. I recommend speaking with Jennifer Lyles.

Also, I just checked the date on the letter of my NEAT award from last year and it was marked April 29 2008. So I'm guessing y'all will find out sometime next month. Good luck!! and take a deep breath :)

OOPS! I just realized part of a sentence was deleted in my last post. I meant to say....

as for Financial aid I did end up having to take out private education loans through my bank in addition to the federal stafford (sub and un sub) that I was given through FAFSA....

Were you able to get any pell grants? I'm so scared about the cost:(. My EFC is 0, but I'm still scared because Emory is so expensive. I did apply for NEAT though, so we shall see!

No pell grants for me :( I did turn in the FAFSA a bit late last year (past the March 1st deadline) so since I got the paperwork in on time this year I am hoping for more federal funds but we'll see. Dont worry we all still worry about the cost! But the education there and the experiences and connections are really well worth it!

Thanks Jess! I feel a liitle better about the whole thing! Can't wait to meet you in person.

Good glad to help! I have general life anxiety so I know how it is :) Glad to help ease your pain a bit! looking forward to meeting y'all too. Have a nice wednesday!

Thanks Jessica!!! One more question...did you apply for service loan cancellation? Can you get that along with NEAT? I'm worried about the cost too and with the banks holding on to their money its probably going to be really tough getting private loans.

Hi ImGonnaKnockUOut!

I applied for the service cancellation loan, but I was put on a waiting list. I just believe that I will get that and NEAT though.

What is the service cancellation loan? How do I get more information about it?
