I have just been accepted to the Emory BSN nursing program for fall 2009 and I just wanted to know if other accepted students would like us to communicate and help each other prepare for the fall. We can discuss anything from immunization, PDA, housing to financial aid.
I would also like current student and alumni to mentor us in order to make our preparation smoother. Any advice is welcome since you've been there before from what type of stethoscope to which brand of PDA to buy.
I am a very meticulous person and would like every thing to go perfectly that is why I need all the advice that I can get so that come August, we would all be ready and prepared for the challenging two years ahead of us.
Thanks to all who will join the group and to all who will advise us.
Really appreciated.
I've been great actually. Just trying to prepare for my move and finish up this dosage calc stuff. I'm pretty excited about school/orientation, yet nervous at the same time! I move next week so that's something to look forward to also. What about you? How has all of your pre-enrollment stuff been going?
It seems like the time between our acceptance and the end of the spring semester went by SO SLOW, but this summer has just ZOOMED by! As far as the calc homework, I put myself on a strict "study schedule" in order to complete it all before I move because moving is stressful enough as it is. Don't feel bad though because I don't have books or uniforms yet either. I'm gonna try to get my uniforms next week though.
Hey Everyone!
How about I just finished the background check and I typed the wrong letter in my first name. Ughhh!!! I didn't realize it until I viewed the summary. What do you all think? I will be so glad when this process is over. I'm still working on my dosage calculations and I still haven't ordered my uniform or any books.
From my understanding, the school has to "approve" all of the background check applications before they'll actually process it. That being said, hopefully someone in the office will catch that typo and correct it. I would call tomorrow to just make sure you didn't need to do anything else. On another note, this pre-enrollment process has really been a headache. I can't wait for it to be over either...
Hey guys! Just finished my first week of work...ALL ORIENTATION. Yeah it is insane but they do a 2 day hospital orientation and then a 3 day patient services orientation. Next week I have computer classes and on Thursday I officially hit the floor. Yay!
I did work in the summer between jr and sr years. I was an extern through Emory Healthcare's program but I don't think they are doing it anymore because of money. While I enjoyed having the income from it and getting the floor experience, I wish I hadn't worked. I am a married mom of two little ones (10 and 7) and I have to commute 60 miles to Emory so I would have preferred not working, looking back. I tell everyone to just relax and take the summer off because school is so intense and stressful but really it's all personal preference. It's nice to be able to use your skills and get the experience of how a floor runs. Plus when hospitals extend an externship to you, it kinda puts you ahead of the game for a job with them. I know several instructors who say that they can tell who worked an externship and who didn't by the way the students are in the fall of sr year. The ones who worked seem more comfortable on the floor. Does taking the summer off put you behind the ones who didn't? No, because usually the majority don't work.
As far as uniform...I didn't even order mine until the 1st week of September. It got back in plenty of time. If you want to wait to buy your steth, they sell them at the school store thingy they do at orientation. I have a Littman master cardiology and LOOOOVE it. I bought it on my own from allheart's website. I can hear the patient next door with that thing.
And I am with you guys...I have a med math test on Tuesday...back to the books.
Don't stress over your med math test. It isn't until a few weeks into school and it is much more basic than the textbook leads you to believe.

Hi everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying your summer. Has anyone had a chance to look over the background check and drug screen information? We have to pay 120 bucks??? Seriously???
