Has anyone recieved one???? Ive applied to U of P and a few others but the wait is killing me!!!!! I recieved a letter RE: providence scholarship Interview and i was lucky to recieve one!! but i havent heard from U of P yet

so just wondering about others, let me know and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Maybe everyone admitted has a 4.0?

*shrugs* I don't know what to think, now. I was under the impression when I applied that the cumulative GPA and essay were the primary factors in making the admission decisions and that they were equally weighted. I thought the purpose for the essay was to determine those who would be good candidates for the program, despite the fact that their grades weren't 3.9+

For those who are planning on applying in the future, the letter said, "OHSU's admission committee considers a variety of factors in making admissions decisions including evaluating cumulative GPA, science GPA, essay response, and overall fit for the program."

That's pretty vague and all-encompassing. I don't think there's anything I could do to really increase my chances very much next year after hearing about others who also didn't make it in this year, as well. Sure, I could bring my grades up a little more and take even more science courses, but I don't think that is going to make much a difference at this point, considering the amount of credits I already have on my transcript. I can't change my undergrad degree to something more applicable to the healthcare field, I can't bring my cumulative GPA up very much in a year's time. (It's currently 3.7) I worked hard on my essay over the course of a couple of months, had several professionals review it, and don't think it can get much better than it was....

Don't be discouraged though! I've heard that a TON of people don't make it in the first time. On one of the rejections I got from OHSU, it said you can call them and they can give you general ideas about how you could improve for next time...who knows, maybe they would be more willing to give information out over the phone than in a letter? I was planning on calling them in a couple weeks once all the chaos dies down a bit.

For those who did get in, maybe you can share with us some of your qualifications or things you did to make yourself stand out?

I got something in the mail today from PCC saying that they want me to turn in my financial aid information before they can process me. I have never received anything like this from them before and i have been putting them on my financial aid for the last two application cycles. I haven't heard back from them yet as to if i was accpted to their nursing program, have an interview or am denied. Last i heard i will get something in the mail sometime in april.

Yikes, I'm still waiting to hear from OHSU, it's driving me crazy! Sounds like a lot of really competitive applicants weren't accepted. Has anyone heard that they got in through a letter instead of a phone call?

... still waiting to hear from Linfield...

I received my rejection letter on Friday after work. 3.9 GPA for the 8 prereq classes; BS degree from an Ivy League college. Now it's down to PCC nursing.

Crazy, isn't it? Was your cumulative GPA really high, too? They said in the letter they went off cumulative GPA as well as the science GPA & essay.

I'd love to know more about those that DID get in to the program... I wonder what OHSU considers an "overall fit for the program".

I haven't heard anything here in Salem............. :uhoh3:

That's what I was hoping would be the case with the OHSU ABSN. I had a 3.7 cumulative GPA with my previous B.A. degree in Education. (Would've been higher if I hadn't started college at 16 and messed around getting mediocre grades :( ) However, I was hoping that my lack of ultra-high GPA and non-science based prior degree would be offset by some pretty unique/outstanding leadership and volunteer experience I had. I know my essay was very strong... so, I was rather disappointed that I wasn't even wait-listed. I knew it would be tough competition and a bit of a long shot, but still thought I had enough to set me apart and make me a good contender. :( :( :(

a 3.7 GPA is a great GPA....... don't give up hope! OHSU has always been known to be super picky....... Linfield probably takes the most well-rounded approach to accepting students ... good luck!

This is my second year applying to OHSU and I am not holding my breath because having two hours to write an essay is not enough time for me so I worry that my essay isnt strong enough :(

I just received my acceptance letter to the Summer 2010 cohort at Linfield... so excited. Anyone else out there? Good luck to everyone else waiting on their schools.

anybody else heard anything from OHSU/Linfield?? i'm dying here in Salem!

Just got a letter from OHSU saying that I am on the alternate list. I am sooo curious as to how many people are on the waiting list and what the odds are. It seems like there are quite a few people on the list from what I have read in the forum. I didn't realize how competitive the accelerated BSN programs were. I applied to only 2 places: OHSU and a school in Boston. Luckily, I got into the nursing school in Boston but I am still crossing my fingers for OHSU. It's a pretty competitive program: I have a cumulative 4.0 G.P.A and two undergrad degrees, research experience, teaching experience, time abroad.. but it didn't really help me with OHSU. I really wonder exactly what OHSU is looking for.
