The only PDX program I applied to was OHSU's ABSN and I got in. Some of you were wondering about people who got in so here is my brief bio: BA-Spanish-3.65 GPA, honors program, MA-Education-3.7 GPA, Peace Corps-2 years as a development volunteer, 3 years work experience mostly teaching high school Spanish. PSU for pre-req's & all A's (but a B+ in Psych 101 which I took in my BA program so I don't have a 4.0 in prereq's.) Oh and then I just found out I got a B+ in second term of A&P...

I felt like they only go on grades and thought I had a very small chance. I used the same essay as I did for other schools, slightly tweaking it. It focuses on my desire to help others and my career goals of becoming an advanced practice nurse and a nurse educator. I have a lot of random volunteer experience, but since they didn't take a resume, I'm not sure if they even know about it. I did throw a resume in my envelope when I mailed my prereq form... maybe they looked at it. Um, also I'm 26 years old.

I hope to meet you all in the healthcare world in PDX. I hear that Oregon is a great place to be a nurse. Good luck everyone!

Well I can't compete with that...... no wonder I just got my rejection letter from OHSU's accelerated program. LOL. Thanks for the insight though, it puts things into perspective.

I just got an email saying that OHSU is still in the final stages of processing apps for the ABSN and that more letters will be sent out next week. this wait is killing me! did anyone else receive an email like this?

Hmmm... everyone I know has been notified. I received my letter a week ago and others on the board were also informed via mail that they were on the wait list. Probably is a good thing... maybe they had narrowed it down to a select few that they are trying to decide between. Good luck! Let us know the outcome!

Oregon is a great place but with 15 nursing schools in the small populated area we have and the minimal spaces in hospitals we are starting to get so over saturated with new grads :( Most people i know who are in school or have graduated still havent found jobs here and are starting to look out of state, but hey they got their license so thats the key.

Concordia called today and told me to be checking my mail for return letters in about two weeks. PCC still hasnt sent anything.

That is an interesting reflection. Just out of curiosity, what are the 15 nursing schools? Concordia, George Fox, Linfield, UP, OHSU, PCC, Mount Hood CC, Clackamas CC...

Do you include Clarke College even though it's in WA?... What are the other ones?

Walla Walla College is another one

I got rejected from Linfield last year with a letter that came out before the stated date. For this year, I retook some classes, got a CNA certificate, and worked on my essays for two months. I was reading here that some people got emails from Linfield telling them if the school received all their application materials. I never got an email like that so I called and they said they sent me one saying they were missing one of my transcripts (I'm pretty sure it didn't go to my spam because I've recieved email from linfield.edu before). So I freak out, cuz it's mid-march already, I ask the lady on the phone if she thought it was worth me turning it in so late. I nearly cried. She said, "Well, I really can't say" Sounds like a no, but i'm thinking, it can't hurt? :( . Blah. Anyway, I scramble to get my transcript from Clackamas Community College - they were super nice and had it ready the same day when I requested it late Friday. On Monday morning, I drive from my home in Wilsonville to Oregon City to pick up my transcript so I could drive it downtown Portland, catching the tail end of morning traffic, then I drive all the way to work in Silverton. I asked the lady at the desk if she could check my email address and she said she would. I called a few days later to verify and she said, "It's the address we have in the system, I'm not sure why you didn't get the email.":crying2:

Still haven't received anything. I've seen that people have already been accepted. Are they waiting to send out the rejection letters all at once?

On the flipside, if I don't get in, I'm going to Hawaii for a week!

Hi Monkeyduty,

I would not give up yet. I believe more letters should be coming in the next day or so. I know they have sent out most of the letters for the summer accelerated cohort, but I don't think that all the fall and spring cohort letters have gone out. So just hold tight. Best of luck. Although Hawaii sounds pretty nice too!
