Acceping letter - GPA

Published

What was your GPA when you got into nursing school or what was it when you were rejected? just looking to see what range should my GPA be at.

4.0 plus 6/6 on entrance proctored essay.

Acceptance process for each school is different. I going into my senoir year of a BSN nursing program and was accepted with a 3.7 (and I pass the NET of course). At the school I attend acceptance is made on a first come first serve basis. The minimum GPA is a 2.5. Each perspective student has to first apply to the university (if not already attending); then once accepted to the universty apply to the school of nursing. As long as you met the minimum requirement for admission you were called or email stating you met the minimum requirements and you had been invited to set for the NET. When I went to take my NET the nursing student recruiter told us if we pass the test we were in. Students are continuously accepted until there is no longer space available. How is this different from other school? Some colleges/universities have applications deadline dates. After such date all applicates are review (categorize by GPA etc.) the decisions are made as to who will be accepted. At my school it does not work this way. It is more like the early bird gets the worm.

Example: 2 students

Student 1: submits the application to the University and to the school of nursing in January w/ an overall GPA of 2.6. He/She is accepted to the university and mets all general requirements including the minimum GPA. This student is then contacted and invited to set for the NET. He/she chooses an April test date. The student takes and pass it and their in.

Student 2: Submits the application to the University and to the school of nursing in March w/ an overall GPA of 4.0. He/She is accepted to the university and mets all general requirements including the minimum GPA. This student is then contacted and invited to set for the NET. The student decides he/she will take it at the end of May. If the end of May comes and all of the alotted slots for the year have been filled regaurdless of this student GPA and the fact that they have met all requirement they will not be accepted for the school year and may be offered a slot for the following year.

I wish my school was like that. Unfortanately for most of us, the schools get quite competitive and alot of qualified students end up getting denied for lack of space.

Specializes in NA.

4.0 rejected, I still had 3 prerequisites to finish. I am finishing the last one now and it appears I will keep my 4.0...so wish me luck for the Spring ASN program :)

3.7 Accepted but I had all my prereq's and general ed's done. The competition was and is fierce and only 180 were accepted out of over 2000+. It helps to have all the prereq's out of the way with a decent GPA to boot.

accepted with a 3.76. But it was a miracle. I was not accepted at first because we were supposed to get our responses in the beginning of May, I never got mine. When I called they said I had not been accepted. Then on June 17 I received an acceptance letter, the reason being that the school had gotten a grant and was now able to accept more students. At first they only accepted 12, and now they accepted 24. I am truly counting my blessings because a counselor told me they never had accepted any one under a 3.8 (they go by gpa). So try your very best to keep up your gpa it will only help you. Good luck!!

Wow, your GPA's are great. I have a 2.8 and I am alternate number 3. Just waiting on 3 people to not accept. Usually about 5-10 people so not accept their seat.

3.93 overall, 4.0 science accepted first try. 120 applied and 50 were accepted. I don't know the cutoff point but i heard 3.2
