Accelerated BSN at Valparaiso

Anyone going to Valparaiso for the accelerated BSN program?

any more info of Valpo U???

I am currently in the valpo BSN program, and I accelerate in the fall of 2010.

I got an acceptance letter today for the accelerated BSN starting May 2010, anyone else? For those already in the program, what are your thoughts?

Hi 06california!

I got accepted to May 2010 ABSN program as well. Are you from California? I'm in CA right now and will be moving to Indiana for school.. a big change but I'm looking forward to starting nursing school.

Hi chasemelony

How do you like the BSN program at Valpo? Are the instructors helpful? Based on my personal experience, the dean has been really good at answering questions I have re. the program (compared to coordinators of other nursing schools)

Congrats on being accepted :anpom: I love their program. It's challenging but if you put the time and effort into studying, you will be fine. The Professors are very nice and understanding. They are always available to help if you have any problems.

I don't know about the BSN program, but I got my MSN at Valpo and it was great. I got my BSN at IU and Valpo was SO much better. I enjoyed each and every faculty member and felt they were helpful, knowledgeable, and caring. I think it's an awesome school.

Winnieander-

I am originally from northern California (waaayyy up there), but I am currently finishing my undergrad in Seattle, WA. When I found out I got into Valpo I almost jumped the gun and made my decision right away seeing as how it is an hour away from Chicago where I have family. But then I found out two days later that I got into Drexel. It's a tough decision and one thing that doesn't help is the fact that there are hardly any threads to snoop on here about Valpo (I think this is one of three!). The Drexel threads are very active and it helps to know what the environment is like and what I can expect (super intensive 11 month program).

I'm curious to know where the clinical sites are for Valpo, and how much students are recruited for jobs leading up until graduation? Those are two of my biggest concerns there.

The school I am at now is a very liberal, 35,000+ student population school. It has definitely raised the bar for me as to what I expect in an education, not size why, but resources, teaching quality, location, credibility, etc. And not that Valpo isn't outstanding in any of those categories, I just really haven't heard enough to make a conscious decision.

I'm interested in this program, has the application deadline passed for 2010? DO they allow a Fall entrance?

Thanks for everyone's response. I had trouble finding threads about Valpo as well and it's really hard to make a decision based on the school's dept of nursing website. I was hoping to read people's opinion about the program (so far 2 positive on this thread....) it's a big decision to pick the school to go to because it's a lot of money and time that we're putting in for this. I want to be sure that my education will get me somewhere when I graduate : /

I agree w/ 06California, it's really important for future ABSN students to know how many students are recruited for jobs leading up until graduation, as well as the passage rate for the NCLEX.

If anyone else have any info on Valpo, please let us know!

I am most positive they allow fall entrance. I found this out in a roundabout way. I looked at the courses they require for the first semester of the nursing curriculum, and then looked at previous course schedules, and they have consistently offered the first semester courses in both the summer AND fall. I would shoot them an e-mail to be sure though, they are good about replying.

06CALI- I'm also applying to Drexel! Does anyone know what the competitive GPA for Valpo would be?

thanks

Hi Chasemelony

Do you know what's the percentage of ABSN students finding work around the area after they complete the program and if the clinical sites are reputable? (since many graduates often end up working for one of the clinical sites after completing the program?)

Thanks a bunch!

There's some magazine that rates schools every year. Sadly, I can't remember its name (duhhh...). But, Valpo always rates very highly. It's a very respected university throughout the country.

Hey all,

I'm also interested in applying to Valparaiso....

I'm just unable to find the deadlines. Did you guys find out if you could apply for the Fall 2010?

Thanks a bunch!

congrats, when did u apply for the program and what is ur Gpa like. I hope that I'm not being too forward by asking:-)

Hey 06California and winnieander! I am also from California (the Bay Area) and got accepted into the ABSN in May.

Have you guys made the decision on whether to go to Valparaiso?

It is such a short time to May, but I am still making my decision.

I know living in Indiana will be very different from California, so I'm really thinking about this decision. Also I would like to know if the university is in line with what I want from an education.

People who are currently attending the university or graduated Valparaiso, can you please give some insight on the program? it is much appreciated! :)

All the best to you all and your journey to becoming a nurse!
