Accelerated BSN program NYU Fall 2011

Published

Hi hopeful Fall 2011 NYU students!

I recently submitted my application for the accelerated BNS program. I saw that other semesters had discussions and I thought it would be nice to start one for us, just to help each other out through the application process.

I looked at past ones when I was filling out my application and found them to be helpful, so hopefully it will be for us.

Love to see who all is applying and how it's going:)

Hey,

I'm actually feeling a little ill, so I am going in to see the school tomorrow instead, but I will definitely look into those things.:)

Anything yet...?!?!?

Hey everyone,

I just read almost all of the posts. I got my acceptance email last week. Just thought I'd say a quick "Hi" to all of you.

Does anyone know how big each incoming class is?

oops - I forgot the important part of my post.

I got in and am going!!!

Anyone already in the NYC area and want to meet up sometime this summer?

Hello everyone! Congrats to the newly accepted!! :)

I had a hard day yesterday with student loans... Not able to get any so had to get creative. Just thought Id share this for any of you who like me have horrible credit and need other options. They are letting me do a payment plan which is going to make it possible for me to go! For those of you interested they take all finaid out and then take the total and split it up into 3 payments. So for example after finaid I would owe $7000. They said I could pay 50% up front then 25% at the end of October and the remaining 25% at the end of November. This is making it WAY more doable for me!!

Do any of you plan on working while in the program?

Oh and Im having some issues with housing. What are everyones plans? I thought I was going to be moving with my husband but that might not be the case anymore. Its going to be a bit more complicated than I thought with his job and our dogs. I might be looking to bunk up with someone while I look for a place that allows my dogs...

Anyone want to share their plans? Or want to help find a pet (large dog) friendly house/apartment..

Has anyone gotten into any schools cheaper in NYC? If so, does anyone know how hard they are to get into? I was looking at SUNY and some schools in Jersey and their tuition is like half. I am starting to wonder if going $80,000 is student loan debt is worth it? Anyone else feeling the same??

EmemJay, I have a good friend and her husband who live in Hoboken NJ, they have a nice place and a St Bernard dog - they're very happy there and the dog seems super happy, he's always out on lots of long nice walks and I know they have a few local spots to choose from to let him run off the leash. I will find out the exact part they're in. I had a pitbull/staff cross here in NYC - he was a huge dog for his breed, we were in the West Village when I had him and although we walked him twice daily and he was taken upstate for vacations his life was not comparable to my dogs back home in Europe, who had a large garden and went to the beach every evening. I will never keep a dog in the city for this reason. I have friend who lives a little further uptown than me who has two great danes, his wife is a personal trainer and takes them out running with her along riverside but it has to be a hassle not having a garden to let them out in - plus no where in the city allows dogs off the leash to really run except the tiny dog parks they have, which I don't like because for some reason I've always owned dogs that like to fight!

As for student loans although I don't know if I'm rejected or accepted yet, whatever college I go to I am in serious doubt if I'll be able to get loans as I have a greencard, and no established credit as I'm foreign and stupidly didn't put many bills or cards in my name when I was first married. I think I may work part time, but I'm not sure how I could make that work because I'm a mother.

For this reason, am also seriously considering SUNY downstate, and may apply for next year after having completed prerequisites. I have been thinking about it a lot also, and to think we all take the same NCLEX-RN at the end of the day am seriously doubting if $80,000+ debt is worth it. However, I would like to believe the likes of NYU and Columbia should have a higher standard of teaching and somewhat spoon feed the course, with more handouts and one to one contact with teachers etc.

Yea, I too have not gotten my decision yet, but the more nurses and medical people I talk to tell me I am crazy to pay those kind of tuition fees. They all tell me " You end up with the same thing, so why pay double and almost triple the amount?" It is definitely something that has been crossing my mind lately. It would be amazing to say I went to NYU, but I really need to evaluate if I am willing to go so far in school loan debt to just say I went to NYU...

But, don't get me wrong, NYU would be an amazing school to attend!! I know I would get a great education! I guess I am just now coming to terms with how much it would cost...I guess time will tell! Good luck everyone else who is still waiting, hopefully we will all know our decisions within a few weeks!

Kandes and Anderson:

First thanks Anderson for the info! We may have a lead on a place in Weehawken? Does that sound right? I dont even know if thats the name of it... But if it is heard anything good or bad about it.

Also guys I started to doubt the whole price of tuition thing as well right when I was about to find out. Just a thought but maybe its a defense mechanism because you dont want to be let down if you dont get in. (Which you will!) Has anyone not gotten in by the way? It seems like more and more everyday are getting accepted.

I dont know for me I feel like its worth it and maybe thats dumb. Maybe its not and Im just trying to justify it. lol But atleast for me I feel like Im paying for the experience. When else am I going to get the chance to move to NY and do a nursing program there. Also NYU is a great and very prestigious school. I feel like that may have some pull when we finally do get into the working world. Or if for some of us that may want to go to grad school. Also I know for me NYU was my top choice because they dont make you take any tests or do volunteer hours to get in. Maybe still not worth the $80000 tuition but these are just my thoughts... Im going to try and make it work. ...Even if I have to sell my first born.
