Accelerated BSN program NYU Fall 2011

Published

Hi hopeful Fall 2011 NYU students!

I recently submitted my application for the accelerated BNS program. I saw that other semesters had discussions and I thought it would be nice to start one for us, just to help each other out through the application process.

I looked at past ones when I was filling out my application and found them to be helpful, so hopefully it will be for us.

Love to see who all is applying and how it's going:)

Hi Halleyco4,

I am applying to NYU as well. I am planning to send my application before the end of the week; I just want to look over it a couple more times. I am glad you started a thread for the Fall 2011 accelerated BSN applicants. Thanks for doing that!

Annie

Hey everyone! Glad someone started a blog for the fall NYU program, I have been reading all of the spring entries. I sent my application materials and submitted my application last week. Hopefully everything got there ok( coming from cali) and sorted because I know admissions can't look on individual basis to see if all materials were completed. Now the waiting begins! Excited and nervous! Good luck to everyone!

@ KKandes. Its good to know that other out of state people have applied! I'm from colorado but went to school in Claremont CA, where are you from?

I too am worried that all my things have gotten there. Have you received an e-mail saying that they got your application? I got mine and they gave me a NetID and said that I can track the status of my application using that website. But I set it all up and it just seems like its their online section for students, but doesn't have anything to track an application. I was hoping to look to see if they were missing any transcripts or letters of recs. Maybe they will have more information once they start reviewing on March 1st?

Let me know if they contact you saying they got everything or not.

What are both of your statuses as far as prereqs go? I'm taking A&P I and microbiology right now and will finish with A&P II this summer.

Good luck to you both as well!

Hey! I am originally from SF, but have been living in San Diego for the past 5 years and attending school. I too got that e-mail, but like you said, it didn't provide much additional information. I figured I would give it a few weeks, then possibly try to call again to see if they can provide me status on materials. Being that we have applied for early decision, I figured as long as all materials are received by the April 1 regular decision it will be ok. So, thats my plan, give them a few weeks and hopefully the site will be updated and all items have been received by admissions. As far as my pre-reqs go I have completed them all besides developmental psych, which I am taking online right now. I will definitely let you know if I get any additional information. Good-luck to you too!! Hopefully we will be hearing back with decisions within 6 weeks! Good luck :)

Hey halleyco4,

I am finished with all my prerequisites except for Microbiology, which I am presently taking. I wouldn't worry about the application until they start looking at them and it will take a few weeks like KKandes said. I can't imagine how many people apply to NYU, so I am sure they have a lot of filing etc. to do. Are you both planning on living in NYU housing?

Annie3289

Hey, I actually plan on living in an apartment since my husband will be moving with me and the major reason is we have a boston terrier pup and I know student housing doesn't allow for animals. What about you? I also recognize you from Columbia's blog site too. I too also got wait-listed, have you heard anything from them yet? I want to move to NY so bad, so I know either school would be amazing to attend!

I sent my application! YAY! Now all we have to do is wait...KKandes, I have not heard anything from Columbia. The deposit for those who got in is not due till March 21st and they haven't heard anything from financial aid, so I don't expect to hear anything for a little while (if I hear anything :(). I have a Papillon puppy and I want to move with her, so if you find places that allow dogs, keep me posted. I am really excited about NYU. They have great affiliations with hospitals and excellent networking from what I have heard. In addition, after your first semester you can apply to their BS/MS program, which is awesome! I live close to NYC, so I am somewhat familiar with the area and NYU is in a great part of NY and very accessible.

Congrats Annie!

I said I would like to live in student housing because it would be closer and cheaper. But I know it is really hard to get student housing so I was thinking if it doesn't work out I will live in Brooklyn. My bf goes to Columbia right now and when I visited I really liked the feel of Brooklyn. It seems so much calmer and such. If I can't find something right away I will live with him for a little until I can. I'm sure many people will be looking so hopefully they will put us all in touch before we move out there so we can find places.

Good luck finding places with those puppies of yours :)

You both applied to columbia? Am I correct that they only do the direct entry bsn/master program?

Annie

Yea, I figured we probably wouldn't hear anything for a while with Columbia since many people are basing their decisions on finances. I would be happy with either school, like you said, NYU has great partnerships and opportunities with hospitals. I plan on applying for the dual program after the first semester too. Thats awesome you already live there, probably very familiar with all the areas! I am from California, but I have always dreamed of living in NY so I am really excited and hoping it works out! Good Luck to you both!

Halleyco4,

NYU has a ton of property, so I wouldn't worry too much. Plus, if you can't find housing on the actual campus, there are places in Brooklyn that are cheaper and it is easy to commute from there to NYU. And yes, KKandes and I both applied to their dual entry program (ETP). They had a 1,000 applicants this year and I believe they had only 500 last year? I could be wrong, but both schools are excellent, so I am not too worried. KKandes, I am familiar with the area, but no expert. I am excited to live in or around the city if I can afford it :( I'll probably try to get NYU housing, so we'll see...How long did it take for you guys to hear from NYU after you sent in your application?

And GOOD LUCK to you both! I wouldn't worry too much. I think all 3 of us will get in ;)

Annie

It took about 1-2 weeks to get an e-mail with our ID number. I hope we all get in too!! I am so excited and want to move already, although the cost is going to be a bit shocking. Luckily I am from Cali (San Diego) so I am use to high prices, but even looking at NY prices is a bit shocking to me in regards to space/size of apartments. But, in the end, I think that will make it even more fun and feel like NY!! Well good luck to you both, and hopefully we will soon be classmates! :)
