ACC Spring 10 admittance

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Does anyone know why ACC moved their Spring '10 admit date from 10/1 to 11/1?? I was hoping to find out today, but when I looked at their site this morning, I noticed the announcement on their homepage. I am dying to find out whether or not I'll be accepted then. We are moving out from CA to TX and need to find out as soon as possible! (otherwise, may have to defer one semester). Just wondering if this is a good or bad thing (maybe they are adding additional/new instructors and are opening up more spots?)

Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Spring '10 hopeful

Hi

I found out the stats for the past 4 semesters (see below). There was a significant jump between Fall 09 and Sp 10 (over 100 additional applicants with the lowest ranking at a 51, 5 points more than in the Fall). Of course, this would be the semester I apply for :( This is huge. What I take away from this is that the applicant pool is getting extremely more competitive (maybe due to a high # of re-applicants or a higher caliber student, who knows).

But, my guess based on these results is that if things continue this way that Fall 10 will only be more competitive (probably 52-54+ ranking being the lowest offered with more than 400 applicants).

Hoping they do admit more with the new campus opening. Any word on this? I am stressed I will not make it at a borderline of 50.8 (that is including my 5 re-app points...Ugh). But, its just "wait and see" at this point.

Just wishing this career change could move a little bit faster...

Good luck :)

SP 10

359 - # applied

51 - lowest ranking offered a spot

FALL 09

262

46.8

SP 09

200

45.4

FALL 08

163

43.51

does anyone know for sure if they will increase the amount accepted because of the round rock opening? it seems like they would. just wish that we had some sort of definite answer. it's a bit daunting to watch the average raise from 46 to 51 accepted. just wish i knew there will be better odds to come.

For the OP, unless things change drastically next semester, a 50.8 should get you in. That is basically what my score was this semester, and I got in. Well, I can't find my ranking email, but I was either 51.7, or 50.7. And if there were 121 spots, while I wasn't last on that list, I was close to it.

As for how many defer, there will be more than you may expect, and there will be those people that do not pass the background check and are declined a spot as well. So for those that just missed the cutoff, if you are just behind those that got in, you have a good chance of getting a letter after the end of November.

Also, for the OP, in a previous post you said you have a BA already. Have you looked into the alternate entry MSN program at UT? They take people with BA/BS degrees that are not BSN and put you through a program that has you finishing with a MSN. If you didn't make the cut into the ADN program at ACC, I would encourage you to pursue as many options as possible to get yourself into school.

Thanks for encouragement to those of us who didn't make it! You must have had a 51 or higher because I was a bit below that and didn't get in. Good advice to those with degrees...wish I had mine! Did you choose the online option?

Thanks Echo2112- good luck with the program and Congrats for getting in. Yes, you must have had a 51 or higher as that was the lowest rank offered a spot. I've come to the reality that I may or may not get in in the Fall, but will likely get in Spring 11. Sounds worlds away. And, yes, have looked into UT (and others) alternate entry MSN programs. Mostly, I have been scared away by the additional pre-reqs required. I'm tired of taking simply pre-req courses! Last I checked, I would have 4 maybe 5 more additional ones to do, prior to even applying. That seemed like too much just for entry to a program, but now, with my reality check of possibly waiting another year to start an ADN, I may think about it for Sp and next Fall. We'll see. Another hurdle is making this move from CA to Austin (also dependent on husband's job offers). But, we'll get out there soon!

Again, good luck with the program. Wish I was in with you! :)

Hey echo, what program did you request? And do you know when to start purchasing uniforms/equipment?

I requested the CEC program, and my understanding is that we will be told when and where to start buying the uniforms and equipment after the background checks.

just curious. what is OP?

OP means "Original Poster", or the person who started the thread.

thanks. also, from what i understand 130 applicants were admitted to the program last semester. does anyone know why only 121 were offered seats for spring 2010?

A great deal of that has to do with the number of faculty available to teach. If there are not enough staff to act as preceptors in the clinicals, then there will be less spots available each semester.

Hey TxRN2BE,

I have heard great things about the online program. So it is true then?? I heard the study guides were great and the instructors were really helpful. If I get in on my first try in Fall 2010, my first choice would be the new onsite Round Rock campus since I live only about 10 minutes from there.

Has anyone heard if they are expanding the program since they will be adding the new Round Rock campus? It seems to make sense that they would since they have the Eastview, Clinical Education Center, and online option already. So maybe more people will get accepted in the Fall 2010.

i'm fixin' to graduate from ACC's online program and i love it!! the instructors are amazing, i can work independently at home instead of attending lectures (which put me to sleep and move SO SLOW) i highly recommend it but you MUST be a self-paced learner, if you haven't done well in online classes before nursing school isn't the time to start! good luck to everyone!!
