ABSN UMASS Amherst 2018

Published

Hi there!

I will be applying to UMass Amherst for the Aug 2018 entering class. I wanted to start a thread for any prospective applicants.

Feel free to discuss anything! Hopefully we can all help each other through the next couple of months while we complete apps and await decisions.

:)

It would stink if they disqualify my application! I did not see that form and did not double space mine. I wish they would have put that in the actual application if they wanted it to be double spaced :(

Has anyone found that it's hard to get a response via email? :/

Has anyone found that it's hard to get a response via email? :/

Are you emailing CPE? I've emailed them a few times and always get a response within 24 hours.

Does anyone know if they are conducting interviews this year?

It seems like they are really cutting down on the application steps. I remember last year there were 2 recommendations and an interview. Now it's 1 rec and no interview (from what I've heard). I wonder why they've made these changes?

Hi All,

I applied to the 2018 start as well, March can't come soon enough I'm so anxious/excited to hear back. I still haven't received my application complete e-mail yet :/ My major was in Health Management & Policy, and I currently work in a hospital setting as an admin. coordinator. When reading the 2017 thread it seemed like a lot of people got e-mailed on March 1st but then another group seemed to get their decisions mailed and received them around March 9th.

Hey everyone!

I just came across this thread and thought I might join. I too am applying for the 2018 ABSN program. I'm not too familiar with UMass Amherst's program in regards to how difficult it is to get accepted.

Fortunately, they did extend the application deadline date to February 1, 2018. Just curious if anyone is still in the process of applying/has any outstanding application requirements? My recommender still hasn't sent in the form. I'm wondering, even though they extended the deadline date if it might effect any chance of admission?

Best of luck to all of you!

Hello everyone,

I received the application complete email last Friday. They send out updates every Tuesday and Friday.

The Jan 15 deadline is strict for the application. Feb 1 is just additional time to get transcripts/recs in. If you haven't yet submitted your online app, you can't apply.

I was under the impression that there were no interviews done last year so I assumed there wouldn't be any done this year either. But I'm not totally sure, just what I assumed.

I'd recommend checking with admissions to make sure everything is in if you haven't gotten the 'application complete' email and think you should have by now.

I got the email too on Friday. I don't think there are any interviews. The emails stated that they will send the decision on early March.

Hi all,

While we wait for the admissions committee, I wanted to get to know the people who applied to this program (hey we may be future colleagues :) )

Mind sharing why you decided to apply to this program and a bit about your background (undergrad major etc)..whatever you feel comfortable sharing, of course.

To get things going, I'm 30 and shifting from a career in defense contracting to nursing. I was pre-med in undergrad, but life took me in a different direction. I always wanted to work in health care from an early age, as I help take care of my brother who is a child with special needs. My mom's side of the family are all health care professionals, so I've seen the kind of life the profession demands and provides. Hopefully, I gain admission and kickstart this new path.

Hi! This is a good idea :)

I'm 26 and was a high school math teacher for 3 years. I was pretty good at it and the kids loved me and I loved them but it just wasn't what I really wanted to do. I started at UMass in 2009 as a undecided on the Pre-med track, but was convinced by my family to change to math as I was always good at it and I tutored since middle school. I regretted it by the time I finished my masters degree in education and have finally jumped ship to go into the healthcare field as I feel like it's what I'm meant to do.

The wait for March 1 will take years off my life, I'm sure.
