Hi there!
I will be applying to UMass Amherst for the Aug 2018 entering class. I wanted to start a thread for any prospective applicants.
Feel free to discuss anything! Hopefully we can all help each other through the next couple of months while we complete apps and await decisions.
:)
Hey everyone!
Great thinking, mickey0391! I will tag along.
I recently graduated from Westfield State in May with a major in Economics and minor in Business Management. I am almost 23 years old. Initially, I started at UMass Amherst but transferred to Westfield. I commuted to school my Junior & Senior year while interning at a company, which turned into a full-time job after graduation. As far as GPA goes, I have a 3.95 in prerequisites. For an undergrad GPA, I did poorly and am worried that might affect my chance of admission in addition to not having any health care related experience.
I have many family members in the health care field and seeing their dedication and passion to helping others inspired me to follow in their footsteps. While figuring out that being a nurse is my ultimate goal; I got my butt in gear and took the prerequisite classes while working full-time.
Nice meeting everyone and I wish you all the best of luck! :) Fingers crossed!
Hi all. My name is Rachel and my first degree is a BS in Psychology. I started prerequisites as soon as I graduated, throughout my pregnancy and my son's first year, he just turned 2! Time flies. I took a year off to prepare for our move here and be mom. We are from Portland, Oregon and arrived here in December for my husband's work. UMass is my number one choice! I am eager to hear back.
Stats:
Prereq GPA: 3.85
Cumulative GPA: 3.6-3.7.... not 100% sure on it because my credits are spread across many schools
Any other mama applicants? Plans for childcare? This is my biggest concern...
I am from MA and went to Westfield State which is very close by and I would not recommend living in Springfield because it's not the best city and it's not really safe. I'm sure some parts are better than others but I know surrounding towns are much safer! I am not sure what I am going to do about housing if I get in!

Hi everyone. Just wanted to calm many nerves and tell you that I contacted admissions about that essay form and was told it is not required.
Anyway, I am nearly 24. I have a BS in Kinesiology. 3.77 overall GPA with 4.0 prereq. I have worked in several rehab settings doing physical therapy and coaching for pediatric, athletic, and older populations. I have also worked as a teacher in preschool and currently work as a paraprofessional for children with special needs. I became interested in healthcare out of a love for the science, caring for others, and because I have grown up taking care of my mother who has a rare disease.
Are we assuming there are no interviews? Best of luck to all of us!!! :)
