Nursing as a twenty one year old hispanic male
I'm a hispanic second-degree nursing student at 23. My mom has always supported my decision, but my dad has been more apprehensive. He tells people I'm studying medicine but whenever I get the chance I correct him and say I'm actually proud to be studying nursing lol. In terms of the hospital, I've only had one older woman refuse care on the basis of my sex (also work as a PCA currently). I feel that the culture in the U.S. is shifting more rapidly than ever before and most people are becoming accustomed to seeing male nurses. I will say that academically, it's really lonely. I 'm the only hispanic male in my class. I don't feel discriminated against per se, but I'm definitely the "other" among the group. I've coped by hanging around other students of color.

Journey to CRNA
Hey! I'm also an A-Rod and interested in becoming a CRNA in the future lol. Not to hijack the thread, but when is it recommended to shadow/how would you go about that?
-
Med school drop out, now a CRNA. Ask me anything...
Did you go straight into the ICU after your ABSN? If so, how?

UCONN CEIN 2019
CTNursing, I agree, but at the end of the day it's still an accredited program. This won't affect job prospects.

Just received my acceptance to my first choice, Waterbury! Congrats to everyone and good luck to those applying for the later deadlines!

Just got word about an hour ago that Heather received an update from the committee. Letters are "expected" to be ready by Monday or Tuesday.

Maybe I'm being a bit pessimistic but I doubt we'll be hearing back this week. The campus was closed yesterday and on top of that, from previous threads, it seems that they frequently predict dates that they'll be done with things but people would still end up waiting past that. This is my first choice, so I'm starting to get a little anxious lol.

I called today around 4 and talked to Pam (I think that was her name). Maybe there's just some kind of miscommunication on their end which I understand during this busy time.

Is anyone planning on committing to QU? I'm still waiting on one more program.

UCONN CEIN 2019
I called today and was told that decisions won't go out for another two weeks at the most. I'm confused..weren't others told it was going to be this week?

UCONN CEIN 2019
Yes, the link to upload it is under the "documents" tab in the "program materials" section. I couldn't find any guidelines for the personal statement, so I kind of just wrote until I felt it was complete.

ABSN UMASS Amherst 2018
After a very hard period of deliberation, I've decided to decline my spot in favor of a program that wouldn't require me to relocate. Good luck to those on the waitlist and to all attending in August!

Thanks for the reply, Jen! It's okay, I'm grateful for being accepted somewhere, you can't win all the time! That number is like, woah, hahah. Is that just tuition, or did they factor in transportation, living costs, etc?
