I just wanted to start a topic for applicants of 2012. I've been going through forums trying to find an applicant in my situation, but I have not been successful so far. I figured by starting my own topic, I can get some feedback. :)
In a quick summary here's my status:
Completed applications so far: NJCU, SHU (Georgian Court), PACE Univerisity
BS Biology 2009 GPA 3.3
Medical Assisting Diploma 2011 GPA 4.0 (Certified as well; now working as CMA w/ lots of clinical experience already)
HESI Score 88, Class avg 83

Hey there! I also applied to the JC cohort and am waiting impatiently... This is torture not knowing where I'll go from here...My stats: My undergrad GPA wasn't too impressive but that was 13 years ago and I've matured quite a bit since then... I've taken 36 credits (including the pre-requs) post-bac and have a 4.0 GPA from them.
I scored an 86.78 on the HESI...
What do you guys think? Do I have a chance?
According to PrettyLady87 we will soon find out. LOL. But looking at old threads it seems that NJCU places an emphasis on 1) Hesi scores 2) undergraduate GPA 3) pre-reqs grades/ amount of classes already completed 4) personal statement and 5) everything else (i.e. reference letters, resume, the applicant as a whole, and etc.) in that particular order. Obviously these are MY observations (basically it doesn't mean much, lol), formed after looking at several old threads and speaking to someone who was accepted into the program but decided not to attend.
From the above observations it looks like I will be waitlisted or rejected because I have too many outstanding pre-reqs (currently taking 3 - will be finishing all 3 in May). Someone was waitlisted for Spring 2011 for the same reason. She had a 98 on the Hesi and an undergraduate GPA of 3.75. She was later accepted off the waitlist. She applied for the wall township cohort.
Good luck to you!
I hope I get in. Drexel ace bsn is too expensive 70k with cost and living. DO you guys know how respected njcu is? in their nursing program etc?
The consensus seems to be that people want into NJCU's program because of its convenience (the program is 12 months) and cost factor. Most people will agree that Rutgers and UMDNJ offer a better quality of education, which also includes a wider variety of clinical options compared to NJCU's ABSN.
According to the 2010 RN- nclex report UMDNJ also had the highest nclex passing rate. While Rutgers had the lowest out of the three. I still think Rutgers is a fine institution because of the quality of the professors compared to NJCU and Rutger's name recognition. Keep in mind that scores reported are not only from each school's ABSN programs, but it is still a good gauge: http://www.nj.gov/lps/ca/nursing/apps/NCLEX-RN.pdf.
Also remember that every program is what you make of it. There is no program that is perfect.
