I just wanted to start a topic for applicants of 2012. I've been going through forums trying to find an applicant in my situation, but I have not been successful so far. I figured by starting my own topic, I can get some feedback. :)
In a quick summary here's my status:
Completed applications so far: NJCU, SHU (Georgian Court), PACE Univerisity
BS Biology 2009 GPA 3.3
Medical Assisting Diploma 2011 GPA 4.0 (Certified as well; now working as CMA w/ lots of clinical experience already)
HESI Score 88, Class avg 83

Thank you juegagirl and ChristinaCow123. I studied about three days hardcore for the HESI and it paid off. But going into the exam I still had a lot of questions.
My stats:
GPA: 3.8 - Received my B.S. in pre-law.
HESI: 90.33. (Class average April 5 was an 82)
2 years of volunteering in the medical field and I am C.P.R and First Aid certified (although I think everyone is on this site. lol)
My biggest concern is the fact that I am currently taking three of the required pre-requisites and I only recently clepped Growth & Development. I currently have an A in two of the courses that I am taking and a solid B in the other one. I worked full-time but recently quit my job so I can prepare for my app and not fail out of school.
Good Luck to everyone!
Hey everyone!!so im taking the hesi tomorrow... dont know what to expect, i studied from the book but all the comments from previous years are scaring meeeee.. i am applying for JC ... when do we find out about the decisions... i heard in may..
Do not be nervous. Simply take your time and you will do fine. The best advice I received was to go into the exam on a full stomach. I studied from the book as well and scored in the 90th percentile in all the sections except for vocabulary ( I didn't study at all for this and I regret it). For the math part know some basic conversions (i.e. milli into liters and gallons into ounces).
Good Luck.
Congrats itrust, you did great! With a gpa of 3.8 you'll get in for sure! :) my gpa is only 3.3 as I was pretty young ten years ago and not really focused! Praying for the best. This is the only school I applied for. Putting all my eggs in one basket is nerve racking. Hope we all get in!
(Still need to CLEP the Dev. Psych course though)
I took this two weeks ago, "Human Growth & Development." Let me know if you have any questions :)
Can you tell me what the majority of the topics were on. How difficult were the questions, and what did you score on it (if you don't mind sharing)

Sure. I would say that about 60% of the questions were related to Theories of Development. The Exam mostly focused on Piaget's Cognitive Development theory, Freud's Psychodynamic Theory, Erikson's psychosocial stages of development, and Kohlberg's theory of moral development. Although, there were several questions about all the others as well. I would also know about Noam Chomsky and others who proposed to answer the definition of intelligence like Spearman, Gardner, and Sternberg (albeit intelligence theory questions were only about 3% of the test). Everything else was pretty much random. I remember there being a question about the age a child starts walking, research strategies, motor development, emotional IQ, and family relationships. I know I gave you a lot of info put this exam honestly asked a little about everything.
I don't know if this exam was difficult but I was definitely ill prepared. A lot of the questions were "scenario" questions so a firm grasp of the concept was necessary. For example, one of the questions said if a child did this in what stage of Kohlberg's moral development would that child fit in. And there were several others like that. So definitely practice questions that provide you with scenarios. I scored a 60 after 4 days of studying. My friend studied for two weeks and scored a 71. But either way we both felt worried throughout the exam because we weren't absolute on a lot of the questions while answering.

A 3.3 is nothing to sneeze at. I can't wait for this ordeal to be over. Like you, I too have only applied to NJCU.
