Hi Everyone,
I have a B.S. in Sociology and a 3.5 gpa. I will be doing my A&P and micro pre-reqs beginning next summer through CCC Online and hope to do well to maintain or improve that GPA!
I don't have any volunteer or work experience in the medical field and as a working mother of (soon to be) two won't be able to do this. What are the odds I will be able to get into an Accelerated BSN program without this experience?
I am in the NYC area and am looking specifically at Wagner, Concordia, SUNY Downstate, Pace, and the College of New Rochelle.
Any and all insight would be great!!

Many aBSN students have no medical experience. I think you'll be okay. :)

How hard will your clinicals be though with no experience? I am thinking BS in Nutrition then accelerated BSN Program. It is just so hard to get in anywhere.

Many people go into absn as a second degree and know nothing about the medical field. I had teachers, psych majors, vets, even cops in my program. Youll be fine! They teach you as if you have no idea what nursing is. Dont worry!

That is kind of the point of the ABSN programs. I did mine in 2006 and my previous bachelors was business. It is the coursework that is the key to ABSN. I had 21 hours a semester. I spent 90% of my time studying..almost non stop. Yes there are clinicals where I suppose being a CNA or something might have helped a little, but basically it made zero difference. All the deans list people had no previous medical experience.

I also am trying to get into a absn program with no previous nursing experience... What is your major in?

You do not have to have medical experience. Most do not.

I graduated from an ABSN program a couple of years ago. The program was hard but doable. It's all about time management. I had zilch experience when I applied to my program. Out of 63 students in my class there was one LPN( she had a previous non-nursing degree). That LPN was on a thin wire of flunking out. So there you go...
Good luck to those thinking about ABSNs.

I am currently in the process of applying to absn programs in NYC as well {pace, Concordia, Lehman, nyu, msv} and I am also a mom of one with no medical expirience. I majored in chemistry and I'm currently serving a term in AmeriCorps. I'm sure we will be fine :)
