  1. How hard will your clinicals be though with no experience? I am thinking BS in Nutrition then accelerated BSN Program. It is just so hard to get in anywhere.
  2. Because of the competitiveness and wait lists I am thinking about majoring in Nutrition same pre reqs as Nursing then applying to an accelerated BSN program or Masters in OT etc. Any advice? I have applied to Long Beach, San Diego, Fresno State(want to move away though) Cal Poly (Nutrition Major) would love to attend there. Also, Cuesta JC and Santa Barbara City College(ADN Program then transfer to BSN) I am guessing that city college route is a total of three years, one year pre reqs then two nursing? then another two years for BSN program so a total of five years on this route? Any advice. I am nursed out and discouraged. I graduate in June 2015. Valedictorian, Awesome Science, Anatomy and Chem grades, AP Bio. Just so confused and discouraged. Our local JC has a five semester wait list max. Any info on any of the schools above. Thanks from a stressed out senior.
  3. Love this blog!! Trying to guide my daughter and feeling frustrated. Which route is the best to go. Adn to bsn or directly to a csu for bsn. Even with her high school record which csu ask for grades in sciences etc she will have a hard time getting in. 4.14, ap bio and stats, well rounded Why do they look at these facts if your considered pre nursing until pre req are complete? Our local jc and csu are impossible to get in within even a two years time. Santa barb city and San Diego city have great programs but she can't apply till pre reqs are done. Some have four ore reqs some have eight. It makes no sense to us. She is taking eng and math now at a local college while she is in her senior year. Will take anatomy in spring and then a few over summer school. Still though unable to apply until summer 2015. Any advice??
  4. I saw an earlier post where you got into sdsu..is it the direct entry program for frshman? Can you share any stats wih me? My daughter is trying to get in for fall 2015 it's her first pick. .4.14 gpa volunteer hours well rounded valedictorian.. What do you think?
  5. thanks again. I think she is thinking adn at a community college.....however ours has a three to five year wait list She may attend santa barbara city college, affordable, and two years she can have her liscense provided all goes as planned. She can work while obtaining her bsn as a nurse somewhere. If she stays home she may never get in and be stuck. There are two direct entry programs san diego state, almost impossible to get in and csu fullerton. With any luck san diego will come through. Santa barbara city will be doable. It will be an expense either way but also an investment and once in a life time opportunity at least at this age. I tried to talk her into changing majors, but no.....SHe will try and take a few pre reqs here her senior year and be ahead of the game. Thanks any reply is appreciated. Any regrets? any advice?
  6. UGH!!! We are just starting this journey, we as in my daughter will be a senior and she is looking at colleges all of which are impacted!! Here locally we have four year wait lists and lottery. Most colleges jc or csu in cali require pre req first before you can even get into the ge part. Any suggestions, we are considering changing majors, I say we lol because I will be supporting her five or six year journey at this rate....Tips suggestions, employment while waiting would be great. She has a senior gpa 4.13 exceeds the eligibility index for most colleges and sat scores are average. There are two programs that are taking freshman into the bsn program but they are very compeitive and dont require the TEAS or look at the whole picture. Its strictly elig index and gpa. If by some miracle she gets in she has to maintain her gpa the entire year until pre req are met then goes to a nursing major status. Honestly, is this all worth it...HELP

  8. Also the TEAS for the new freshman sdsu program started this year must be taken after the prereqs are completed and your classification goes to "Nursing" major?
  9. Feeder schools meaning jc that feeds into the csu you want? Our jc here is impacted as is our csu. How was the program as sdsu any suggestions, good and bad points, dorm life? Also they just started in 2014 a freshman entry program with a four year track of pre req and ge. Not sure if its offered next year when we would be attending. She applies in October this year. Her high school gpa now is 4.13.. she exceeds the eligibility index and has received A grades in bio, chem and ap bio as well as anatomy. Sadly they dont look at any of that. Fullerton and Sac state both look at the entire picture. This is so frustrating as a parent and I wonder if she should change her major. Here we have students with a five year wait!! Any tips are appreciated.
  10. Anyone familiar with CSU Fullerton Freshman direct entry program BSN or San Diego State generic BSN program? ANy suggestions on other CSU in California without a wait list/lottery or private colleges that are affordable>
  11. You answered a post of mine regarding freshman entry level nursing programs. I happened upon this post as I am challenged techy wise and saw your post about Tourettes. My 19 year old son has TS and was diagnosed at age 4. If there is anything I can do or give support let me know. This is a very misunderstood disorder and was hell going through school. They told me he would never fit in and be in special ed. They wanted to medicate him heavily and I tried natural instead. Anyway this is a nursing blog so I will be brief. He is a 4.0 student third year Crim major and doing great. :) I can give you my email if you like. How old is your son.
  12. Thank you both for your input. I should have clarified direct entry as I saw that on csu fullertons page. They have a program specifically for freshman that the pre req and gen ed are done the first year. If you keep up the gpa etc then your classified nursing student and continue on the last three years. San Diego State has a similar program for freshman and you are classified a nursing student after pre req have been taken and gpa is passed. Both are a set plan of ge classes, pre req and then nursing classes begin year two. Most college she has looked at want the pre req chem, bio micr bio taken before even applying for the BSN program. It is confusing and there are so many routes to go. I say get your degree in something else then do the Masters in nursing. That is an option at most colleges in our state. The problem is locally here in fresno, Cali both csu and jc are impacted and have a lottery. Some getting in after five years. To me that is such a waste of time. What would you do in the mean time? Just take random classes? Ugh this is so stressful. She will not go out of state so we are good there. Dorms are expensive and required and we get no financial aid as we make to much according to the guidelines. I love this blog and we have learned so much on it. I guess she needs a back up plan, as she meets the eligibility index calculation for both schools she wants to attend, but they are both competitive and getting in is slim. Again, here locally there is a wait list so I cant see getting your pre req and gen ed done then not getting in for years. We may not have a choice. Any comments are welcome. One things I did notice is that the asn to the bsn seems quite popular, getting the ge and pre req then applying everywhere you can. Any thoughts on that. Also, and lastly, the curriculum looks so hard!!! WOW can you have any activities in college in your a nursing student. It seems not. Thanks for the valuable insight.
  13. wow thats crazy and not the picture that a lot of schools are painting. Well thanks for the info. SHe will figure it out. My son was easy and a crim major. :) Starting his 3rd year and just received a full ride for his last two years. Very blessed since my daughter will be starting college in one short year.
  14. wow what would your job consist of sounds awesome forensic nursing?
  15. the programs are impacted at nearly every csu in calif
