Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
They weren't kidding about Southern hospitality! I lived in Manhattan for 6 years. I'm so not used to it!Being that I have to leave by 6pm on the 29th, I wouldn't be able to grab a beer with you guys anyways...so I might need to rent a car.
OK I have an anatomy final tomorrow that I need to study for. This is all so distracting!
There is a US airways flight that leaves that Friday night at 7:40pm. If you only have a carry-on, you can show up at the airport at 7 and be fine.
If you decide to come and not rent a car, let me know and I will be happy to pick you up at the hotel and drop you off at the airport after it's all done. Just let me know.
Good luck on your anatomy final. I have a feeling you will knock it out of the park!!!
I'll be driving up Thursday, so I'm not sure I'll be there Thursday night until quite late.... so I'm guessing either Friday night or Saturday afternoon. We'll probably stay through the weekend to get a taste for the area.
I have to talk to my boyfriend about what to do. Considering he is moving with me, he might want to come check out the area. If he is coming, I'll probably come have a beer (or 12) with y'all (see what I did there?).
OK I might need radio silence while I try to study. I'll let you know if I'm joining BBQ/Brew Crew. Peace out, peeps!
I also plan on flying in on Thursday. I would probably stay over Friday night too (so I can hang out with everyone!). I've checked out hotels closer to campus. Some offer a shuttle to nearby places (Duke included). And it seems to be about $30-35 cab ride from RDU airport to the hotels near campus. Do you guys think that would be cheaper than staying at a hotel near the airport (since they're usually more expensive)?
(Also, I don't even know if this is allowed, but I'm sure a mod will come yell at me if it's not... if anyone's as much of a Facebook junkie as I am, feel free to find me on there... http://www.facebook.com/krisnichols :)).
Wow! I leave for one day and you guys throw five pages of posts at me! Not surprising considering the AWESOME circumstances! Got my email a while ago, too! WOO! As I was going to tell you all before this all hit the fan, I nailed the GRE last night (then celebrated... a bit too much... :) ). While I was sleeping in, I guess the committee was being "favorably impressed" by my score.
Anyway. Congrats to all! I still haven't decided which day to interview. Most likely the middle one, I guess, but I figure I'll let the out of towners fill up the spots they want before I make my move.
As for barbecue, here's my take as a chef: Carolina barbecue is generally not my favorite, but that being said, Bullocks is probably the best around. For GREAT 'cue, I would recommend the Original Q-Shack on university drive. They have carolina pulled pork, AWESOME brisket (the owner is from texas), good st. louis/memphis style pork ribs, and decent smoked chicken/sausage. Its concept has been franchised nationwide, but the Original is much much better.
If y'all have ANY questions about the area, let me know. I'm not sure if i can get/send PMs yet... I'll check on that later. For now I'm starving. More soon.
WOO!
YAY! YAY! YIPPEE! YAY! I am so excited for everyone! Did everyone in our group get the email? Oh, I hope so! Did I mention how excited I am for everybody? Oh, I really better calm down, this kind of excitement can be dangerous at my age! ha!
I have to say that you guys have kept me laughing all morning, and now into the afternoon! You guys rock! :heartbeat
Mld1980 - I LOVE your if-you-can't-stay-for-one-beer-then-make-a-weekend-of-it-and-stay-for-twelve" attitude!
