ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

YAY! YAY! YIPPEE! YAY! I am so excited for everyone! Did everyone in our group get the email?

Abbie Grace said she was going to be at a meeting all day, so I pm'd her and got her cell # ahead of time and texted her as soon as I got my email. Hopefully she got an email too! I told her we were requesting 1/29.

Excellent work fellow chaperone. I sent her a PM too, not realizing you two had a master plan. She's probably wanted to bust out of that meeting ever since she got your text.

What about Atoma? I am guessing she's just letting work interfere with this thread...Hmph! We are definitely going to have to give her a stern talking-to about priorities!

I'm thinking I might just treat myself to a new outfit for the occasion. Probably something on the business side of business casual... slacks + nice blouse + jacket. I keep reminding myself that NC in January is not quite as warm as Florida in January. ;)

Twois it will be brisk here in NC. Asheville is actually getting 5 inches of snow tomorrow (thats a lot for this Mississippi Native)!

I too am pretty sure I'm going to buy something new shiny and fabulous. Probably something business snappy. Hmmm a shopping we will go...

Oh my goooooddneessss, what are the chances of it snowing in RDU in late January?? Sorry, but it's been... um.... almost 8 years since I've seen snow. That would be so rad.

(I'm Florida born and raised, and when I get out, it's usually in the summer to escape the Hades-like heat and humidity!)

I was thinking that the interview would be a good opportunity to set myself apart so they'll remember me. I'm seeing a "Duke Blue" pimp hat with lots of feathers, a frilly-gauzy poet/pirate blouse, a denim skort, my favorite orange fake Crocs, modest jewelry, and knee pads in case I fall down. Thoughts?

You southerners... we had snow here (in PA) a week or so ago. Nice big, beautiful snowflakes and a few inches on the ground I think. It's been a warm 30-some degrees here this week. Haha, I actually don't mind the cold weather.

I have convinced my BF to travel South with me for this occasion. We will more than likely arrive Wednesday night like the rest of you and rent a car. Although it's only an 8-hour drive... so we may end up driving down. (smaller carbon footprint, right?) :) Either way, I too will have a car and help with "to and fro-ing."

I have a kinda stylish gray pant suit with a big black belt through the jacket that might take the cake... However, if I end up driving I might spend the extra dough on a cute sweater/shell combo. (Jackets aren't really my cup-o-tea.)

We only have what, 42 days to mull this over??

I'm going to have to sneak a lil' bit of my Gator spirit in somewhere though... maybe an orange and blue bracelet. I'll go to Duke, but you're never gonna make me a true blood Blue Devil!

For those interested, the Comfort Inn Medical Park located on Hillandale Road offers a free shuttle to the Duke campus between 8am and 4pm. It'd be about a $30 cab ride from the airport. Here are the following rates:

Thursday 1/28: $74.99, Friday 1/29: $64.99

If you are Triple A member, they offer cheaper rates:

Thursday 1/28: $67.49, Friday 1/29: $58.49

I'm sure there are cheaper hotels, but I might go with this one because of the free ride to Duke, and they also offer a free deluxe continental breakfast. I would rather stay closer to campus than the airport because I have a heck of a time getting up really early, and I'd like to sleep as late as possible!
