Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
Well... actually, I take that back... if your profile's right and you're 24, you may pay heavy underage charges (which are ridiculous, but rental car companies charge extra for under-25 drivers). It'll be expensive too if you have to pick up the car on Thursday, which I also didn't think about. (Today is not a particularly great day for my critical thinking, apparently.) Generally, though, if you're 25+ and renting Fri-Sun, you can get a rental car for cheap cheap weekend rates.
I usually just pay for a rental car because I really like the freedom of being able to explore the city and make the inevitable trip to Target for whatever I forgot this time. (toothbrush, socks, phone charger...)
Check out http://www.supershuttle.com/Raleigh_airport_shuttle.aspx for a cheaper option to get in from the airport. It's a shared-ride service, so it's not as fast, but it's usually a lot cheaper than a cab!
Hi All, sorry about the late response! I got an interview as well, and I went to brunch to celebrate! I am bummed I can't do the 29th...I have another interview that day! Bummer! I guess I'll just hope to put faces to the screennames in the fall! I'm pretty darn excited about the interview. I'm thinking of going on Feb. 5th, because Duke's my top choice and I think I would like the extra practice before hand...who knows though...the anticipation is killing me...or just my fingernails. And, I do need to figure out something to wear. It's not easy, and my southern CA wardrobe just may not cut it for winter in NC!
Thanks for following up with me kebunt! I don't have enough posts to send PMs, but I do appreciate your checking in on me!
I'm so excited to check out Duke...it will be my 2nd time to North Carolina, and the last time I went, I was jealous that my brothers went to a New Kids on the Block concert, but I couldn't because I was too young....needless to say, that was many moons ago! The other thing I remember about the trip was going to Carowinds and thinking it was cool to be in two states at once. Something tells me I will have a much greater appreciation this time around! HA!
And, while I'm here...I'm 26 too, just thought I would throw that out there...been working in marketing since I graduated in 2005, and am so excited to be out of that industry and onto something meaningful, as cliche as it sounds.
Anyhoo....I'm sure you're all having great days now that some of that interview pressure is off, but have great weekends as well! I'm so excited to meet you all in the upcoming months! And, if any of you are not attending on the 29th, what days are you going? HAPPY HAPPY THURSDAY!!!
As far as hotels go, the Marriott downtown is a great option on the kinda-pricier end.. probably a good bet for those of you bringing s/o's in tow. Walking distance from Rue Cler, my French restaurant/coffee shop/bakery, and a couple great bars (recommend Whisky on Thursday nights for live jazz, Bull McCabe's for really quite good bar food), and my favorite lunch place, Toast (amazing paninis, etc). My mom has stayed at the Hampton Inn just off I-85 at the Hillandale Rd. exit, which is pretty close to campus and should be cheap, too, but for my money you should stay downtown and see what Durham has been working on improving for the past couple years.
I'm often jealous of the fun that you ladies get to have with your clothes... I've got no option but the ol' grey suit, I think. But my tie will rock.
Just a quick tip... I just used Priceline to get a 3.5-star hotel for $35/night, checking in Thursday and checking out Sunday. :) $128 total for the entire weekend! And it put me here:

Which looks quite nice and is only about a mile to the Duke medical center area!
Carolina11 - As great as that ensemble sounds, do you have any fishnets to dress it up a bit?
Hey All - Will anyone be talking to *the dear one* anytime soon? The woman that is handling the interview scheduling tells me they are looking at adding a fourth Duke Day because they have so many interviews. What!? I thought it would be just us!
She said she didn't have the exact number, but you know who could tell us how many. Can someone analyze this with me please??

With a $30 cab ride from the airport, if that's each way, you might want to check the rates on just renting a car!
