Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
Yep, ya beat me to it. The Marriott is a quick and pretty (except the part where you pass my neighborhood :) ) drive to DHS.. Less than 5 minutes if you drive like I do. Hopefully, they will reimburse your parking in the garage across the street from DUSON, as I think it's a buck an hour. I suppose I could smuggle all of you out with my ED volunteer badge, too. :)
And yes, Maryash, Rue Cler was my baby. I've left it in very good hands with the new chef, though, and it is still excellent... if a little more italian. The new guy spent a long time in italy learning about pasta and prosciutto and sometimes can't help himself. If any of you end up at the Marriott or find yourself downtown in the morning, don't miss the coffee and beignets (it's actually just focaccia dough deep fried and covered in sugar... but who cares about authenticity when fried dough is concerned?) Lunch is ok, but I'd skip it for the aforementioned Toast. Dinner and coffee are Rue's reasons for being.

You say that like pasta and prosciutto are a bad thing.
Just booked the same deal through Priceline!!!Millienium Hotel 3.5 stars for 35 dollars a night. not too shabby, right?
Goodness, that's my hope. Party at the Millenium! (I can't decide if this guy's dancing or stumbling around drunk, but I'm hoping dancing.)
Check out http://www.supershuttle.com/Raleigh_airport_shuttle.aspx for a cheaper option to get in from the airport. It's a shared-ride service, so it's not as fast, but it's usually a lot cheaper than a cab!
Has anyone ever used this Supershuttle service, or heard anything about it? It seems pretty reliable, and I might use it for a pick up from the airport to the Millennium and vice versa. It's only $32 roundtrip, whereas the Millennium charges $35 each way.
Looks like a definite party at this hotel! Although, am I the only one not bringing a significant other? Oh well...
I've used SuperShuttle in other cities but, not in Durham. I've found that in some places it ends up not being all that much cheaper than just taking a cab. Taxi costs can really vary between different parts of the country so, it's hard to say. Also, it can be a pain if you're one of the first pick-ups. You might end up driving all over town before you make it to the airport!
Over all, I'd say that they're reliable and a smart option if you're trying to save a little bit of money.
Are you single, too? Or, just not bringing your +1? I'm starting to feel like I'm the only non-attached applicant.
I have not used it in RDU, but I've used it in about 4-5 other cities and they've always been reliable, just not fast. Give them plenty of time when you schedule your ride back to the airport, because if you're one of 10 or however many needing to be picked up for the airport in the morning, it can take a while if you're the first on the list, and of course that'll be the day that the airline security line is a mile long, etc etc... better to have to entertain yourself for an extra hour at the airport than miss your flight, for sure.
I'd say at half the cost of a cab, it's worth it for a cost-conscious traveller but perhaps not someone trying to make it a really relaxing weekend away. I spent the better part of 3 years travelling extensively as a sports journalist, so I will allow that my tolerance for inconvenience in the name of saving a few bucks for dinner may be somewhat ridiculously high these days.
Well from hotel websites I've gathered that a cab from the airport to hotels near Duke would be around $30-35 one way, so it would definitely be cheaper to do the Supershuttle which only costs $32 both ways.
And don't worry, I am single as well, haha. Are you staying in a hotel or with your family?
wow-quiet weekend! i hope this means everyone is having fun. well, i have some sad news for me and good news for you guys. in addition to duke, i also applied to unc's absn program and was waitlisted last month. i got a call on friday with an offer to join the january 2010 absn cohort. after weighing the two schools against each other and how it affects my situation (in-state tuition), i've decided to accept their offer and start in january .
i have had such a blast joking around with yall and i know you will have a great time in the program. i'm sad that i won't get to join you for beer and bbq, but i'll be in classes by then. on the bright side, there are now 196 applicants to compete for admission! best of luck to you all!!! :anpom:
p.s. i'll be calling "her" tomorrow to sadly withdraw my application and cancel my interview at duke days.

Did you say you were a Chef at Rue Cler? I have read a bit about it (previously) and always brings rave reviews!
