Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
Carolina11 - As great as that ensemble sounds, do you have any fishnets to dress it up a bit?She said she didn't have the exact number, but you know who could tell us how many. Can someone analyze this with me please??
Fishnets sound fun if you're sure it wouldn't be too much. They may help cover my bruises and tattoo of Squidward.
I'm not liking the sound of adding another Duke Day. Someone needs to find a reason to call "her."
Hey Twois thanks for the hotel suggestion. I am now leaning towards staying there, because Priceline's flight+hotel deal for the Millenium is about the same for the Comfort Inn I was looking at, and the Millenium seems like a much nicer place. Plus, they offer a shuttle to/from RDU (nominal fee- don't know exactly how much that is, but hopefully cheaper than a taxi), as well as a shuttle to/from Duke (not sure if there's a fee).
Anyone else plan on staying over the weekend of the 29th? We could party it up at the Millenium Hotel!
I can't so much call it a recommendation, cause I've never been there, but for $35... it can't be as bad as the Super 8, etc that you'd normally get for that price, I figure. :)
I don't know what to say about the number of interviewees. I guess... it can't be more than 197? :) I'd be interested in knowing, if anyone asks, though. Even if it's absolutely everyone who applied, we've got a better than 1 in 3 chance of getting accepted... and, if the interview status is at all selective, it only gets better from there. And we definitely have the passion and clarity of thought on our side, from what I can tell from our conversations. So don't stress over the numbers. Get excited about Duke (if you haven't been there, you're going to be floored at how wonderful the campus is), the nursing school, BBQ, beers, and stay positive for the interviews! :) If it is meant to be, it will be... I'm not even religious and I believe that. And so far, it feels meant to be for me. (That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!)
Hi guys!
I just got on this Duke thread tonight and I am laughing my head off! Everyone here is soooo sweet and funny! I want to join in the circus, too!
I just got an interview letter today and I am thinking about going on the 22nd. You guys are giving some great tips on here. I am praying for everyone!

welcome ginillel!!!!
glad you found our little beacon in the storm. congrats on the interview!
i was trying to crunch some numbers today regarding interviews... here is my math
one duke day = 7.5 hours
each interview = 30 minutes
so assuming interviews begin at 9 and the committee takes a one hour lunch break that only leaves six hours for interviews... which means twelve people????
12 x three duke days = 36 f2f interviews
12 x four duke days = 48 interviews
all in all still less that the 70 allotted slots. i'm wondering if half the folks opt for a phone interview *or* if there are 2 interview committees... *or* if interviews are more like 15 minutes long....
your thoughts??
Hi everyone!
Wow, I missed a lot today. The thread exploded! I think I'm caught-up, though.
I was stuck in a staff retreat all day with NO access to email. Carolina was sweet enough to text me when the email went out and I called DUSON to ask about my interview status.
And.... I'll be joining everyone on the 29th!!
I am SO proud that you all jumped on my BBQ idea. I have some family in the area that I very rarely get to see and I'm going to try to hang out with them while I'm in town so, unfortunately, I can't commit to any social gatherings. I hope that I can make it (lord knows I'll appreciate a cold beer after the interview) but, I need to stay flexible so that I can see my relatives when they're free. So... I guess we'll see.
However, at the very least, I'll get to kick-it with you all day at Duke Days!!
Omg.
Good Morning Friends and Fellow Duke Hopefuls!
I have to share, its snowing like crazy in Asheville. We are supposed to get 15 inches today! That is craaaazy. I am spending the day baking and of course checking in with the crew on All Nurses.
Jason, if you are around, how far is the downtown Marriott from Duke? I think I may try to stay there!
I am confirmed for the 29th!
"She" said there will be two different committees for the interviews. She had also mentioned that 197 applied and that they typically interview around 125-140 (with 70 slots to fill and then around 20-30 waitlist).
Since all of us have made it to the interview round, are chances are even better: over 50% chance of getting accepted.
If "she #2" said that they are thinking of opening up another date, they may have more "in-person" interviews than they have had in the past.
I think our chances overall are excellent compared to other schools. I'll take those odds (now i just hope i am one of those 70 that get a slot). :-)
Thanks for finding out, tazluff! I'm glad it's just more in-person interviews. I wonder what the ratio is of in-person to phone interviews... because 140 interviews / 3 days = still over 45 interviews per day... which seems like way too much if there's only two committees doing interviews. So there has to be a fairly significant number who can't attend in person.
If you go back and read the interview email, it doesn't really say that a phone interview is even an option... I wonder if more people are scheduling in-person because of that?

Wow, this thread has exploded! So, I'm scheduled for the 22nd. Maybe I can still join you guys for a beer or something after work on the 29th. (I live about 25 minutes from Duke...assuming I don't get lost on the way.) I'm so excited for everyone!
