ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

Aw! Well, I'm awfully sad we won't get to meet you, but terribly excited for you that you got into UNC! I've heard their program is fantastic, and boy do I know how appealing in-state tuition is. And you get to start in TWO WEEKS. I'm so jealous!

GOOD LUCK! And don't be a stranger 'round here even if you're not going to Duke! :)

Congratulations! I am truly so happy for you! UNC has such an amazing program, factor in tuition and it's a no-brainer. Fantastic!

On the other hand I am going to miss you in our little group and am so very disappointed that I won't get to see you in that denim skort, pirate shirt, feather boa, fishnets and faux orange crocs outfit you were throwing together for Duke Days.

Wait, now who's going to chaperone with me? It certainly won't be MaryAsh...(Hehe, just kidding Girl. Although let's face it, it's not gonna be you - chaperoning and lavendar martinis do NOT mix!)

Carolina11 - Pretty soon you'll be too busy to chat with us, but just know that TeamDuke is cheering you on!

Thanks you guys so much. I hope the students in my classes are half as fun as yall. Maybe I'll wear my Duke Days outfit to the first day of class. Yet another opportunity to make a lasting impression. Although I will probably leave off the fishnets because my bruises have healed and I want everyone to see my Squidward tattoo-he's carolina blue!

wow-quiet weekend! i hope this means everyone is having fun. well, i have some sad news for me and good news for you guys. in addition to duke, i also applied to unc's absn program and was waitlisted last month. i got a call on friday with an offer to join the january 2010 absn cohort. after weighing the two schools against each other and how it affects my situation (in-state tuition), i've decided to accept their offer and start in january .

i have had such a blast joking around with yall and i know you will have a great time in the program. i'm sad that i won't get to join you for beer and bbq, but i'll be in classes by then. on the bright side, there are now 196 applicants to compete for admission! best of luck to you all!!! :anpom:

Congrats!!!! You did all that work reapplying for May UNC. Did you submit it yet? Hope not so you didn't waste the $80 on the application fee. If so, maybe they will refund it to you.

Since we feel like you are part of the "hope-to-soon-be-Duke-SON-students" family, you can still join us for beer and bbq. You shouldn't be in classes at that time of day (gosh, I hope not!!!)

Luckily, I got a call on Friday afternoon and hadn't submitted my application yet. I had done all the entry of work history, activities, volunteering, awards, all that tedious stuff but had not finished updating my essays.

You're so sweet to still let me come. I just may because I know it will be a great time! You guys are gonna be so pumped after spending the day at Duke! On Fridays I will be done with class at 2pm...and I'm sure I'll be hungry...and very thirsty.

For those of you who like to fuel the fire... I found the ABSN student hand book online to be a good way to kill 45 minutes at work. Reading it answered some of my questions about class load/ credit hours/ scrubs/etc. It can be found under the "current student" section.

Good catch. The only thing from that page that I had looked at was the Calendar. I had also looked on Duke's website for course descriptions. That might be a little useful as well to some.

Ladies - Anybody else shopping for fab interview attire? I thought of you all this weekend when I came across the Ann Taylor 40% off of everything sale! Gotta love her, that Ann. :redbeathe Just wondering what you all were thinking in terms of wardrobe. I suppose we could all wear orange crocs in honor of Carolina11...
