ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.:santa:

Hey All! I just got home from a little Christmas Eve revelry, and wanted to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

Ho Ho Ho!

Merry Christmas, y'all. :) Hope you all had an enjoyable day, celebrating or not! I know I did!

Merry Christmas everybody!

OK got all my reservations set. I too am staying at the Millenium, flying in on Thursday morning and out Saturday morning. My boyfriend is tagging along too to check out the area.

I've heard Durham isn't that nice of a city (according to my old roommate who went to Duke) and that Chapel Hill is way nicer. Anyone have any thoughts?

My friend who's a PT at the Duke University Hospital said that there are some bad areas of Durham. Maybe that's mostly near the downtown area? I've looked at some apartments that are directly north and south of campus, within a few miles, and they seem to be in a nice area. But I guess you can't really unless you visit yourself. My friend lives in the Cary area and said it only takes about 20 min. to get to Duke. If I do end up coming to Duke, I'd like to try and live closer to campus, but not unless it's in a good area. I guess I can worry about housing later.

It all depends on the part of Durham but that's just like any city. I'm also in Cary so the drive isn't that bad.

Chapel Hill is a college town. It pretty much only exists because of the university. I went to NC State, which has a nice campus downtown Raleigh but Chapel Hill has a nice campus too. From what I have seen Duke has a nice one as well.

There are places close to campus that you shouldn't have to worry about and then others close by if you didn't want to live in Durham. The drive from Cary does not require me to go through any place I don't feel comfortable with.

I can always assist or answer questions as best as possible about the area if you like as I am sure others on the forum can too.

I look forward to meeting those on the 29th.

I'm from Cary, and never appreciated Durham until I was an adult. Durham has a LOT to offer, it's changed a great deal within the last ten years or so. Like any city, there are bad areas. Anyone's opinion has much to do with their past experiences, so don't make a decision based on one person's impressions, that's my motto anyway. Come visit, see what you think, then decide.

Love love love: Cosmic Cantina (if you can find it, hee hee!), Pop's Restaurant (Italian divinity), ADF performances at Duke in the summer, they have year round performances at the Carolina Theater and praise for Whole Foods on Broad Street! Durham has a Farmers Market too and don't forget the baseball stadium (not that I follow sports it's just a cool thing for Durham to have...).

I have my interview on the 22nd! Woo hoo, getting a new interview jacket with my Macy's xmas giftcard this weekend hopefully! Getting my roots done before the big day too. And who knows, I may get a manicure!

Durham has a Farmers Market too

I was just looking into this the other night. Is it decent? How are the other ones in the area? Localharvest lists a bunch among Raleigh, Durham, and Cary, and it even looks like Duke has one on-campus... I'd love to live somewhere with a good farmer's market. Ours is a little sad and at a really weird day/time to boot.

Never been actually! I just know it exists!

I'm not sure about Durham but the state's main one is in Raleigh off I-40. West Cary has one on Saturdays from 8-12. I'm not sure about others though.

rubypie is getting her ROOTS DONE!!! you go girl. :)
