About Your Hours

Published

Hello all, I'm just wondering what hours everyone works and if you wish you could find a way to work more ... I think it would be cool to compare here on these forums.

6AM-230PM right here

but sometimes I wish I could work more with gas going through the roof

J Jackson,

I got my agency postition by applying on line at one agency's website. I went in for an interview and took some tests. I was basically hired on the spot. I could work when I wanted, so if I didn't want that shift or was already working I turned it down. I only stopped because I ended up in the hospital and took time to recover and cut my hours. That was a few years ago. The hospital they sent me to wouldn't give me an admit ( fine by me) . I usually had a good night. Just beware not everywhere they send you will be friendly to agency. I worked staff for one place that was notorious for being awful to agency nurses. Most places will be happy to see you. Always remember that if you are unfamillar with something ask, use your resources. You do have to be flexible to work agency , sometimes you will work 4 hours on one floor and be pulled to work 8 hours on another floor.

I am actually looking to do that again. I will be able to make a little more money while doing it since I now work ICU.

I have three (3) different jobs. Two are full-time, and the third is a PRN gig.

First job is Monday through Friday from 6am to 2pm (five 8 hour shifts).

Second job is Saturday and Sunday from 6:30pm to 6:30am (two 12 hour shifts, but I'm paid for 32 hours under my workplace's weekend Baylor plan).

Third job is for whatever shifts need to be filled, typically 2pm to 10pm during the week.

I'm tired looking at your schedule. Are you totally exhausted?!

I'm not physically tired. I'm emotionally drained from all of the political crap that occurs behind the scenes. I've never been comfortable with the politics of nursing, and having three different job sites exposes me to the tactics like a triple whammy. Sorry, but I become disgusted when my nurse manager is plotting to rid the company of a perfectly good nurse.

The good news is that I plan to resign from my weekday full-time job (6 to 2pm, Monday through Friday).

Wow! And you're staff here at allnurses! Where do you find the time? I thought I worked alot.

645p-715a OR 245p-315a 3 days a week, plus I usually pick up anywhere from 12-24 extra hours a week. In the last 30 days, I've had like 3 days off. Yeah, crazy. I know.

Specializes in everywhere.

I work 4 ten hours days a week, never work weekends unless I'm on call and get called in, then it is only for that case.

I like my hours, much better than the floor hours. I hated the supposed 12 hour shifts that easily turned into 14 hours. Yes, then I had more days off during the week, but wasted at least one just resting up.

2-8's, 2-12's a week...0645-1515 and 0645-1915......i like it just fine!

A friend of mine who is a CNA told me that she gota call the other day about working temporarily as a in-home caregiver, I guess they needed a nurse with a CNA license to help with an old person in his home. Has anyone done something like that? She said she got paid 11 an hour, which i wouldnt mind; plus thats a good change of pace!:p

I work Mon-Fri at a hospital clinic, M,W,F from 10 to 6:30, T, Thu 12-8:30p. I do alot of per diem on Saturdays. I want more money, not sure about more work (smile). I just signed to begin working per diem in Med-Surg, and I may do that every other weekend on the evening tour. I am saving towards tuition money for my son's Bachelor's degree and paying off debt. I see the credit score rising so, at least I am seeing the fruits of my efforts.

She is a nurse working with a CNA certificate? Shocks me, because if she is hired as a live in caregiver, she can get more as a nurse. I have worked home health as a nurse (LPN) as well as an aide, but I never stayed overnight, just shift work.

I have worked four hour, six hour, eight hour, and twelve hour shifts in home care recently. Currently, I have some of each of these shifts. Can't say what I like the best, other than I prefer night shift.
