A Watched Kettle Never Boils: Waiting to Hear From Nursing Schools

Published

The weeks of waiting for acceptance or rejection letters are dwindling down to days. Between the constant email-checking and All Nurses forum-checking, I wrestle with the thought that I have become a slave to thesix schools that hold my future in their hands.

It's bad, folks... Especially in the evenings, when I eagerly check my home mailbox only to find a Penny Saver and Del Taco coupons, a mockery of a consolation prize. My fate for the day is sealed and I know that the hope of receiving any responses is dead. All I can do is wait to repeat this agonizing ritual again the next day.

The kettle is not boiling because I always have an eye on it. My mind is screaming, "BOIL ALREADY!" but, of course, that never helps.

What about you? How do you pass the time to keep from going crazy?

I am waiting on Caldwell too.. But I already got accepted into Molloy college..

I was just thinking about this today...

One year ago today my acceptance letter arrived. Today I had a group presentation for mental health, and I have a pharm exam and a health assessment final tomorrow, with other finals next week. And then I'll have completed year 1 of my 3 year BSN program.

It's so funny looking back because I know exactly how you felt. I also know exactly how amazing you're going to feel when that acceptance letter arrives!

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

Ha! I feel your pain! The deadline to apply to my school of choice is June 1, so I know I won't hear anything until mid-late June... Maybe even July! Fortunately, I feel pretty confident I'm in-- we were told at the nursing orientation that the cut off for the program is usually around 175, maybe 185 on their scale based on TEAS, classes taken, etc... And I'm at 222 (woo hoo!). I know that's not going to stop me from stressing out over it for the entire month of June, though!

Rejection #2 received... 4 more chances!

I wish we lived in a place where lottery style selection didn't exist... :(

Ha! The funny part of that is I've only been rejected from merit-based schools! Now, I'm banking on my last 4 lottery schools! ::Fingers crossed::

To answer our question as to what I did in waiting for my acceptance letter, I did absolutely nothing. My advice to you would be to be as productive as possible. I received my acceptance letter in late March, and am now going just as, if not more, crazy as I was in waiting around. Right now, I feel like I'm running around trying to schedule things and complete requirements before the start of the semester (June). Definitely try to figure out what needs to be done for each school. Make appointments for immunizations, blood tests and BLS as needed. Get out every once in awhile, meet some friends for a drink, get some exercise. I hope this helps, and good luck!!!

I received my acceptance letter! :D Now that I'm in...I'm kinda freaking out about how much everything is going to cost  But I'm so happy to be in. I start in the fall. I just met with the advisor at the university where I'll finish the BSN once I'm done with the ADN. They have a transfer agreement between schools which will allow me to work on BSN courses concurrently with the ADN courses, so it'll only take 1 year to complete the BSN after I'm done with my RN...YAY!

I just found out that my son will be graduating from high school the same year I'll be completing my BSN. Holy cow!

All my best to those of you still playing the waiting game. I think I wore out the carpet that leads to the front door from checking the mailbox so often!!!
