Using Dictation Equipment to Transcribe Class Notes
I did medical transcription in the past as a side job from home and the lady I worked with would email me wave or MP3 files that I would save and open in a program I downloaded called Express Scribe. For those jobs I used the Olympus AS-2300 PC Transcription DSS foot pedal hooked up to my computer. If you are thinking of using the old school Dictaphone with a micro-cassette, I used the Sony M-2020 machine. Just a few suggestions of machines that worked well for me:)

Really appreciate the feedback! I reached out to ------------- this week and she will be sending an email out next week with more information on the info packets we need to prepare. Is there a simulation/skills lab on campus? Where you have a mock-clinical setting to practice.

Glendale Community College ADN 2013
Hi Bsherm, I ended up going with Pierce. When I spoke to the lady at Glendale she said the 2 pre-nursing program summer classes start in June and its a little too soon for me (I am planning to move from OC to LA at the beginning of August). I was able to get more insight about Pierce's program and I feel a lot more comfortable with accepting a spot there.

pasadena city college rn program fall 2013
Thank you! Aww, that totally made my day! Likewise, it would have been great to be in an RN program together...but there's always the BSN and DNP! :)...and I agree with you, life is easier when you have fun and humor. I'm sure there will be other people in both of our programs who already have a bachelors as well and have been through the college thing...part of me is slightly worried most of my classmates will be coming from high school or a year or two out. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it was good to be in the same boat, I guess is what my point is.

pasadena city college rn program fall 2013
I decided on Pierce. I've gotten more info and heard positive feedback from current nursing students in the program, so I feel a lot better about it. It definitely sounds challenging, but overall sounds like they really try to prepare you.

attn ALL RN's !! serious help
Sorry to hear about your situation, really unfortunate. I have to agree with akulahawk however that you may want to get tested for a possible learning disability, maybe even an anxiety disorder or ADHD related issue. If you do have a legitimate disability and can get treatment showing improvement in your critical thinking abilities and anxiety coping skills, etc., you may have a chance at being admitted into a program with success. Don't let this experience define you or set the tone for all that you do, try to find a way to overcome your struggles and achieve your passion. When God closes a door, He opens a window...maybe talk to a counselor at your school to see what steps you can take to get tested?

Glendale Community College ADN 2013
Oh no, that really sucks. I hope something can be worked out for you for GCCs program. I think you should call the chair or speak to the nursing program specialist and see if your application can be reinstated or at least offer you an alternate seat if you made the cut in the lottery. I'd be pretty bummed too...

Recipes and snack ideas for school and clinicals
So one idea I picked up from a nutritionist is to have one of those glucerna snack bars, if you need a boost. Even though they are marketed for people who are diabetic, anyone can actually eat them. They won't cause your blood sugar to spike because it has a low glycemic index.

Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!
Paleo diet, that's interesting...I'm vegetarian (have been since I was a kid) and that at times can be challenging double checking ingredient lists, etc., but with a paleo diet can you drink coffee or have juice? You mentioned no sugars, so just curious if that includes fruits? I'm a health and fitness nut myself and my usual daily diet is pretty similar to a raw food diet (although I admit I do give in to some processed nutrition/sports bars like Luna bars and Odwalla).
