Using Dictation Equipment to Transcribe Class Notes

I did medical transcription in the past as a side job from home and the lady I worked with would email me wave or MP3 files that I would save and open in a program I downloaded called Express Scribe. For those jobs I used the Olympus AS-2300 PC Transcription DSS foot pedal hooked up to my computer. If you are thinking of using the old school Dictaphone with a micro-cassette, I used the Sony M-2020 machine. Just a few suggestions of machines that worked well for me:)

attn ALL RN's !! serious help

Sorry to hear about your situation, really unfortunate. I have to agree with akulahawk however that you may want to get tested for a possible learning disability, maybe even an anxiety disorder or ADHD related issue. If you do have a legitimate disability and can get treatment showing improvement in your critical thinking abilities and anxiety coping skills, etc., you may have a chance at being admitted into a program with success. Don't let this experience define you or set the tone for all that you do, try to find a way to overcome your struggles and achieve your passion. When God closes a door, He opens a window...maybe talk to a counselor at your school to see what steps you can take to get tested?

    Glendale Community College ADN 2013

Oh no, that really sucks. I hope something can be worked out for you for GCCs program. I think you should call the chair or speak to the nursing program specialist and see if your application can be reinstated or at least offer you an alternate seat if you made the cut in the lottery. I'd be pretty bummed too...

Recipes and snack ideas for school and clinicals

So one idea I picked up from a nutritionist is to have one of those glucerna snack bars, if you need a boost. Even though they are marketed for people who are diabetic, anyone can actually eat them. They won't cause your blood sugar to spike because it has a low glycemic index.

    Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

Paleo diet, that's interesting...I'm vegetarian (have been since I was a kid) and that at times can be challenging double checking ingredient lists, etc., but with a paleo diet can you drink coffee or have juice? You mentioned no sugars, so just curious if that includes fruits? I'm a health and fitness nut myself and my usual daily diet is pretty similar to a raw food diet (although I admit I do give in to some processed nutrition/sports bars like Luna bars and Odwalla).

    Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

I second that! Drinking enough water is so important and will more likely lead to weight loss or maintenance. Hard boiled eggs are a great source of nutrition or even egg whites. Low sodium nuts and dried fruit, high fiber cereal, fruits, greek yogurt, veggies (like cucumber and carrot sticks). I recently purchased "Ball" brand plastic canning freezer jars (16oz) and these are awesome, safe, BPA free, etc. and what I do is make protein shakes or smoothies for the week and then stick them in the freezer to grab and take with me. They're perfect because it thaws nicely within a few hours (especially during summer!). If you're craving a little chocolate, No Pudge fudge brownies are awesome and 0 fat! So easy to make too! You can usually find it at a Whole Foods or Sprouts or Fresh and Easy store. My fiance loves these! I usually pour the batter into muffin tins and so they come out like mini muffins, easy to pop out of the tray and put into a container. They make a great snack when you're craving a guilt free treat.

    Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

I think this really depends on the person...to me making a generalization that everyone gains weight in nursing school sounds like the old "freshman 15" when people go off to college and gain weight. Personally, I lost weight throughout college. I think if you make a lifestyle choice to eat healthy and workout (no excuses, like brushing your teeth everyday) and learn to balance stress, then you make it happen and avoid the gain. I guess if you're someone who wants to gain weight, hopefully its muscle and not fat.

pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

Hahaha!! Love it!:) Gosh, I hope there's cool people in my program at Pierce! (Why PCC? Why?!) I know, I want to get started on all my requirements too! I think the 3 months back thing is pretty standard, and probably a good thing too. Make sure everyone is well and vaccinated before any clinicals. Do you know what hospitals you're doing your clinicals at for Pasadena?

pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

Aww, thank you!! Me too! This place feels like Cheers! Everyone knows everyone! I still don't know the "official" orientation date for Pierce yet, they're supposed to send out our information packets in June...but, of course I want to want to know all the details now! So far all I know is all my immunizations and required lab work has to be done no sooner than 3 months before the program start date August 26th but must be completed by August 16th. So, just have that on my calendar so far. I think the spring 2013 applicants will be thinking "PCC sounds awesome!" and will go through the same nail biting nerves and allnurses post stalking that we all have...and continue to do (guilty). :) Oops, wait a minute...it is spring 2013, so I think I mean 2014.

AMEN TO THAT! I agree, you should see the Pierce College thread, so far its just 3 of us! Where is everybody? I find myself back on Pasadena's page just because there's so much camaraderie and excitement among everyone who got in! lol That's so great! It makes me want to get a calendar in PCC Lancer Red too...and I didn't even get in!
