  1. I was just accepted into LA Pierce College's Generic ADN program for fall 2013 and I am just curious as to how current or former nursing students liked the program? Are the resources and instructors good? There really is not much posted about this pr...
  2. Using Dictation Equipment to Transcribe Class Notes

Awesome! I'm glad that info helped!
  3. Using Dictation Equipment to Transcribe Class Notes

I did medical transcription in the past as a side job from home and the lady I worked with would email me wave or MP3 files that I would save and open in a program I downloaded called Express Scribe. For those jobs I used the Olympus AS-2300 PC Trans...
  4. LA Pierce College Nursing Students...feedback

I didn't get my books yet either only because it said in the letter to wait until orientation.

  9. Glendale Community College ADN 2013

Hi Bsherm, I ended up going with Pierce. When I spoke to the lady at Glendale she said the 2 pre-nursing program summer classes start in June and its a little too soon for me (I am planning to move from OC to LA at the beginning of August). I was abl...
  10. pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

Thank you! Aww, that totally made my day! Likewise, it would have been great to be in an RN program together...but there's always the BSN and DNP! :)...and I agree with you, life is easier when you have fun and humor. I'm sure there will be other peo...
  11. pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

I decided on Pierce. I've gotten more info and heard positive feedback from current nursing students in the program, so I feel a lot better about it. It definitely sounds challenging, but overall sounds like they really try to prepare you.
  12. attn ALL RN's !! serious help

Sorry to hear about your situation, really unfortunate. I have to agree with akulahawk however that you may want to get tested for a possible learning disability, maybe even an anxiety disorder or ADHD related issue. If you do have a legitimate disab...
  13. Glendale Community College ADN 2013

Oh no, that really sucks. I hope something can be worked out for you for GCCs program. I think you should call the chair or speak to the nursing program specialist and see if your application can be reinstated or at least offer you an alternate seat ...
  14. Recipes and snack ideas for school and clinicals

So one idea I picked up from a nutritionist is to have one of those glucerna snack bars, if you need a boost. Even though they are marketed for people who are diabetic, anyone can actually eat them. They won't cause your blood sugar to spike because ...
  15. Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

Paleo diet, that's interesting...I'm vegetarian (have been since I was a kid) and that at times can be challenging double checking ingredient lists, etc., but with a paleo diet can you drink coffee or have juice? You mentioned no sugars, so just curi...
  16. LA Pierce College Nursing Students...feedback

Are you still debating whether to go to Moorpark or Pierce?
  17. LA Pierce College Nursing Students...feedback

Awesome, that would be great! I just sent you a PM through allnurses with my email address.
  18. Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

I second that! Drinking enough water is so important and will more likely lead to weight loss or maintenance. Hard boiled eggs are a great source of nutrition or even egg whites. Low sodium nuts and dried fruit, high fiber cereal, fruits, greek yogu...
  19. Weight Gain in Nursing school?!!!

I think this really depends on the person...to me making a generalization that everyone gains weight in nursing school sounds like the old "freshman 15" when people go off to college and gain weight. Personally, I lost weight throughout college. I th...

    Thank you!:)
  21. pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

Hahaha!! Love it!:) Gosh, I hope there's cool people in my program at Pierce! (Why PCC? Why?!) I know, I want to get started on all my requirements too! I think the 3 months back thing is pretty standard, and probably a good thing too. Make sure ever...
  22. pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

Aww, thank you!! Me too! This place feels like Cheers! Everyone knows everyone! I still don't know the "official" orientation date for Pierce yet, they're supposed to send out our information packets in June...but, of course I want to want to know a...

AMEN TO THAT! I agree, you should see the Pierce College thread, so far its just 3 of us! Where is everybody? I find myself back on Pasadena's page just because there's so much camaraderie and excitement among everyone who got in! lol That's so great...
  24. LA Pierce College Nursing Students...feedback

I agree with you, whether the NLN status is a big deal for certain positions or not it doesn't hurt to have it just in case. Like you, I want to choose what is going to allow more opportunities, because my understanding is that NLN is more important ...
  25. Glendale Community College ADN 2013

Hi brewin! Well, if TEAS scores were a part of the selection process, I'm sure scoring in the 99th percentile helped! That's terrific you were accepted into 2/2 schools so far! I applied to 8 RN programs, I was accepted into 2 so far, and selected as...
